    I am currently in the process of applying to SNHU online for a degree in human services. I have credits from a few former colleges. I was curious as to how generous their transfer credit policies are? I know they advertise that theirs are the best, but is it true? I have some specific education course credits that I have been able to match to some of their elementary ed courses through the use of their course catalog, and I'd like to use them as free electives in my new chosen program, but I wasn't sure just how generous their transfer credits would be. Does anyone have any experience working with SNHU Online programs? I really don't want to have to re-do tons of credits and be in major college debt before finishing my degree so I'm trying to do this in the smartest way possible, and SNHU really stuck out to me as a school that works with their students due to the way I've been treated thus far with advisors.

    The only way to know for sure is to contact them and see what they say.

    As a *general* rule, regionally accredited schools will accept transfer credits from other regionally accredited schools.

    But, there are almost always limits on the amount of credits, how old they are, and what fields of study the credits are. I had a classmate in a community college summer session class (Intro to Philosophy) who was a Harvard undergrad, he was taking the course to transfer the credits to Harvard (both schools are RA).

    The only specific answer lies with SNHU itself. However, I wouldn't consider any school that doesn't give me a specific, binding agreement on what transfer credits they will accept, after reviewing official transcripts, before turning over any monies.

    I've been in contact with them a few times about it so far, and they seem like they'll work with me on it. I could transfer in up to 90 credits, and I have a lot of the gen Ed courses matched up with ones I have previously taken. All my credits are regionally accredited, some from a community college and some from another online university. I'm just trying to be proactive and not have to pay a lot out in student loans to graduate.

    Kafox93,

    One helpful rule of thumb is to look at each college and universities' academic catalog. This is where they post their policies on transfer credits. Here is a summary of transfer credits from their catalog:

    Maximum Credit Hours Awarded

    Undergraduate students may be awarded a maximum of credit hours, as follows:
    Toward a bachelor’s degree: 90 credit hours;
    Toward an associate’s degree: 45 credit hours;
    Toward an undergraduate certificate program or specialization or graduate program: 6 hours.
