    Hi,

I am very interested in the Distance Learning PhD program at the University of Leicester.

I am based in the US and this programs seems to be a very good fit for me.

Has anyone successfully completed a PhD degree with the University of Leicester?

If yes, can you please share your experience in regards to the overall program and how you felt the University support was? Did you have adequate attention and support from your supervisors?

I believe that there are two supervisors assigned to each PhD students. Am I right?

Also how was your experience in regards to the application? I was informed that the maximum rate for rejection is twice and then they won't consider any further application. How difficult is the admission process?

I would appreciate any feedback from successful candidates who are either undergoing the program or have graduated.

    Thank you.

    Hi Kizmet,

First thank you for leading me to University of Leicester. I wasn't aware until you guided me, so thank you.

I am interested in the PhD Management, if that is what you are asking me.

You may want to try and PM Rich Douglas. He completed a doctorate (Doctor of Social Science in Human Resource Development) from the University of Leicester. He also earned a PhD from Union Institute and University.

While I do appreciate the plug, I don't have much insight into Leicester's PhD offerings. The British PhD in general, yes, but not specifically Leicester's. The degree I did is a completely different animal, with different content, methodologies, processes, standards, and rules. Sorry.

I am looking for the same information because I am looking to switch due to family issues, which I end up being single dad raising two young children alone. Therefore, the current program at Nova Southeastern University requires two residencies per semester. So, here what I got from the Program Manager.

    "Dear Henry,

Thank you for your enquiry. If you are interested and would like to make an application for our PhD programme please write your research proposal in the area that you are interested. You need to submit it with your application and it is important for the panel to make their decision for your application.

Please find attached a copy of the guidance on how to write your proposal.

As you have already searched and interested to work with Dr William Green you can communicate with him and let him know about your research project. But this is optional and you DO NOT REQUIRE to contact academics at this stage. The supervisory team will be allocated after successful application and interview. You can write his name as your suggestive supervisor on your first page of your proposal.

American English academic writing is acceptable for your research proposal as long as you have provided information that is required from you – see attached file for your info.

In regarding dissertation I cannot advise you and it will depend on your supervisory team later on after successful application. So you will need to discuss it with your supervisor(s).

If you are applying for Distance Learning submission deadline is 15th Feb 2016. Campus based is 15th July 2016.

If you have any more queries and problems please do contact me.

    Kind Regards

    Sima

It's going to be a matter of in the research proposal your demonstration of some comprehension of quantitative research methodologies (or research methodologies appropriate to the discipline) and a knowledge of where you want to go with the research, as well as having a research interest that's a good fit at least for one member of the faculty (who's willing to take another doctoral student under the wing).

It's not like a U.S. Ph.D program where you often go in wholly ignorant of what you're setting out to do and, step-by-step, they guide you through the process until after two years of classes in quantitative research methods appropriate to the field you embark on your dissertation (which might, if you're lucky, involve sufficient servitude to your mentor and a Ph.D after 5 or 6 years, or might, if you're unlucky, involve a long, pointless and fruitless process as either you lose interest and hope, your mentor moves on to another university, retires, or dies--happened to my wife's mentor--or completely loses confidence and interest in you and allows you to hang around for wasted years of teaching freshman courses as a GTA and collecting a measly stipend that falls short of a living wage until you finally give up and find a real job in corporate America or slink off, masters-only, into community college purgatory.
