The University of Zululand seems to be well priced, however, the Unizul website does not seem to be very informative. Do they offer any DL undergrad programs? Or are their DL programs strictly theology?
I'm not even close to being an expert on this school but I'll offer an answer with the understanding that my knowledge is easily trumped. While UNIZUL has undergrad programs, they are not DL. My understanding is that the school is of the British style, where the Doctoral degrees are done solely by research. The next logical question becomes, "Why can't I do the research from ___________" (fill in the blank). The PhD in Theology program has become the subject of much conversation because 1) the department is willing to entertain DL doctoral students and 2) the Theology department is rather well known and well respected. My guess is that other departments may be willing to enter into similar arrangements on an individualized basis. You're correct when you say that the web site doesn't offer a lot of info. I think you'll just have to take the plunge and start sending email. Jack
Howdy, All. Regarding the issue of departments other than theology working with DL: I received the email below from Reuben (now DR. van Rensburg!) in late April. I had expressed interest in doing an interdisciplinary doctoral project with these two departments. I only recently submitted the full application documentation, so this “accepted” was provisional. I requested enrollment with UNIZUL rather than SATS; it should be interesting if I end up working primarily with SATS, bein’s how I ain’t Christian. Reuben should be nominated for sainthood. Very responsive, very caring about helping. And now he’s called my bluff!! No more daydreaming and fantasizing! I might actually have to buckle down and do what I said I wanted to do! YIKES!!!! Dear Larry You have been accepted at the University of Zululand under professors Edwards (Psychology) and Song (Theology) subject to your qualifications being accepted by the South African Qualifications Authority (I am sure this will not be a problem at all). Kindly let me know how you would like to proceed. Divine Comedy, eh? Or perhaps "Divine Irony" would be more accurate in this case. I am indeed looking forward to it.
============================================ Hello Dr Colleen A cursory glance at the UZ website reveals that the University offers an MEd and doctorate by thesis. I believe these are distance.
