I'm not averse to the ad aspect. Lets me learn about them.
Maybe they're good at verifying credentials - but they're not very good at verifying their own Internet "ad" lingo.

A long section of it is repeated - verbatim. They should look out for stuff like that. Not an image-builder.

The thing I dislike about companies like this is that they, by design, are going to be somewhat ineffective.

It isn't possible to capture all relevant education and training in one place (unless, of course, you're in the military). And I'm always uncomfortable with people (whose experience and expertise is unknown to me) serving as a gatekeeper for my verifications.

I like it when employees and prospective employees claim Verified Certificates through MOOCs. Because I can go and verify them on their Coursera profile. Easy day. Degree verification can be hit or miss depending upon where a person went to school. As I said before, you can use the National Student Clearinghouse but that is only really going to help you for RA.

In order for this type of service to really be useful it would have to be capable of essentially verifying every possible professional certification and professional development certificate.

So, they need to be equally capable of verifying a CMA, a CIA, a PMP and a CFA. With new certifications cropping up all the time I am not sure how, exactly, that would work. They obviously can't keep pace with new certifications as they come out and they couldn't possibly guarantee that all certification providers would be willing to work with them. If self reported, how do I know that this company would actually give my Cert from Cornell a fair shake? Or would they basically list it like a MOOC? Or not at all?

Call me skeptical but I've been doing what I do for long enough to simply not accept at face value a vendor's hype about how they 'revolutionized' anything or how their company will 'change the way I do business.'

Part of it too is that I am somewhat paranoid about privacy. I don't even let HRCI include me in their online directory. The only thing that makes me more uncomfortable than handing over volumes of my information to a government agency is handing it all over to a private company.
