Do you have any comments on SERSI University,http://www.unihe.ch/unihe/unihe/uk/index_sersi_uk.html located in Switzerland, other than that they are "accredited" by the less-than-wonderful WAUC? They state in their website: "The SERSI ( Society for Study and Research in Industrial Sciences) has been active since 1982, according to the regulations and law of Switzerland, where the Society is duly registered. Those who have acquired high levels of professional and scientific experience have the opportunity, through our University, to be awarded a prestigious academic qualification. The study programs and means of evaluation are closely linked to the quality and professional experience of each individual candidate." Do their degrees stand any chance of being respected and academically valid? And: Reading their above statement, maybe I don't really understand it (I am not so good at reading behind words ): are theirs Swiss degrees? adelheid
It's listed in the "other" chapter in Bears' Guide. Not recognized by Swiss government. Was labeled a worthless diploma mill on AED some years back.
Dear Gert Potgieter: Thank you for your reply. I thought there are only public universities in Switzerland. That is where I got confused. Thus leaving the question: How can SERSI legally issue degrees - apparently since 20 years (!?!?) - "under the swiss law" if they are not recognized by the Swiss government? This is the point that I don't understand. adelheid
@ Adelheid: you just need 50.000 Swiss Franks to open up a "University" in some parts (Kanton) of Switzerland, that´s no problem at all. And anybody can issue a Diploma (but they´re just "worth" anything if the university is "accredited" by Swiss Authorities) That´s why there´s SO MANY bogus universities ("Freie Universität Teufen", "Universität Herisau") in Switzerland that even try to fool German consumers with Advertisings in big German weekly papers (FAZ/Euro am Sonntag, etc.) although those degrees would not even be legally lead in Germany... Hope I could have helped. Search the Swiss Department of Education´s website for finding a list of "real" universities. Greets, trigger
50,000 franks and all they come up with is a two page text based web page?. I'm not going to get my PhD in e-commerce there for sure
Here's a useful resource for checking out distance learning programs -- the International Distance Learning Centre. They have a directory of providers by country at http://www-icdl.open.ac.uk/provider.ihtml that you can browse by region/country or search (use the tab on the right-hand side). Providers in Switzerland: Centre Romand d'Enseignement a Distance Fernstudien Schweiz (FS-CH) Institut Domi TECFA - FPSE, Universite de Geneve I don't see SERSI on that list.
