Good afternoon guys, recently accepted into TESC and am interested in picking up a BA in English. I cannot get my transcripts sent over to the Admissions office quite yet due to holds at my previous college. Just wanted to make sure I had enough credits to bank my associates degree, and then perhaps get your opinions on a plan of attack to fast-track/lower cost of getting my English degree. Would really appreciate any feedback, Thanks!

Am looking into taking some Clep tests to speed things up, but might not be able to any time soon due to my current location. (Sydney, Australia)

    So in math I have
    -Beginners algebra, Aleks
    -Intermediate Algebra, Aleks
    -College Algebra, Aleks
    -Trigonometry, Aleks

    -Basic chemistry, BCC (5)
    -Developmental Psychology, BCC (3)
    -General Psychology, BCC (3)

    Computer Sciences
-Info Processing System (Excel, Word), BCC (3)

Thomas Edison State College: English Their guidelines for the degree your seeking.

CLEP - College-Level Exam Program CLEP equivalency

    DANTES DSST equivalencies

I think the thing you will have the most trouble with is finding enough credits, especially 18 at the upper level (300-400) to satisfy the major requirements. If you stick with English you will have to find those courses University of Idaho English-Independent Study in Idaho-University of Idaho and CSU Pueblo both offer some English > Division of Extended Studies > Colorado State University-Pueblo But they cost a lot more than CLEP and will take time. TESC has other degree options that are more test out friendly like their BSBA which can still, I believe, be completed entirely with easier to obtain credit brought in from outside BSBA in General Management Degree Program Of course, being oversees, the courses through a school like Uof Idaho or CSU-p might be just the thing.

    Good Luck,

I pretty much agree with rebel on the assessment of your B.A. in English. The tough part is going to be getting your upper level English courses. But, those options are out there. I believe Fort Hays also has some higher level English courses that might be worth considering.

To your original question (which, I believe, is for the A.A.?) here are the degree requirements. I'll copy it just for ease of review:

    I. General Education 60
    A. Intellectual and Practical Skills 15
    Written Communication
    (6)
    Oral Communication
    (3)
    Quantitative Literacy
    (3)
    Information Literacy
    (3)
    B. Civic and Global Learning 9
    Diversity
    (3)
    Ethics
    (3)
    Civic Engagement
    (3)
    C. Knowledge of Human Cultures 12
    D. Understanding the Physical and Natural World (4-6)
    E. Electives (18-20)
    Total 60

There are a few small gaps. For starters, I don't see an ethics course on your list. Looks like you meet the Knowledge of Human Cultures requirement, at least partially, with Japanese and possibly US History (and Theater Art?). Also, unless I'm adding incorrectly (possible) I'm only counting 58 credits in your list. For the A.A. you'll need 60. Maybe it's just ethics you're missing but I feel like that human cultures bit is a little light as well.

But I'm not a TESC expert.

A TESC expert should weigh in, but I think the Human Cultures is only lacking a humanities course:

Thomas Edison State College: General Education Electives " Human cultures and the physical and natural world through study in areas including the sciences and mathematics, social sciences, humanities, histories, languages, and the arts (18 credits)
Institutional outcomes include Scientific Reasoning expanded to include Social Sciences Reasoning and Humanities Reasoning
Examples include courses in the sciences, social sciences, humanities including interdisciplinary courses ENS-314 Global Environmental Change, HIS-356 War and American Society and PHI-370 Philosophy of Religion. The requirements are:
    3 credits Social Sciences
    3 credits Natural Sciences
    3 credits Humanities
9 credits of Human cultures and the physical world electives"

3 The OP has Psych (3 credits)
3 Natural Science (5 credits Chemistry)
    3 Humanities (?)
9 credits of HC electives (Japanese, theater, developmental psych =9 credits, plus 2 credits left over from chemistry for a total of 11)

Isn't there a capstone now for AA?

BYU has a ton of English courses at all levels, but they have really become expensive these last few years: https://is.byu.edu/site/courses/index.cfm?school=univ#university=on|high-school=false|middle-school=false|continuing-education=false|ig=on|online=on|paper=on
