    Hello,

I'm currently making my final decision between attending Walden for a certificate program or going with APU for a second Masters program. I just finished my MBA at a traditional school but want to be more marketable and increase a few specific skills.

I really like both programs I'm looking at so my deciding factors will come down to which school will be the best fit. The cost come out the same but obviously APU will take more time since it will be a second degree.

Any opinions from those that have attended either school would be greatly appreciated!!

In what specific area of study are you considering either the added graduate degree or certificate program? And what particulars helped you decide your selections to be Walden or American Public University?

I can tell you about Walden's PhD in Criminal Justice and AMU's MA in American History. Both places are well organized and the workload is consistent term to term in both. I never had an unreasonable professor in either. Walden is a lot more expensive, so if AMU had had the program I needed I'd definitely have gone there. Both schools' admins are friendly and well-run. For the same cost, I'd get a second degree from AMU. AMU's payment plans were really helpful to me. You only need to come up with a down-payment per course (maybe $300) and you can pay month to month. AMU has a lot of graduate certificates that fit into master's programs, so you might be able to get a cert on the way to a master's. Both schools were good choices for me. Good luck.

I attended AMU for my MBA and graduated in 2013. It was very fast paced but seemed well structured. I only had one bad professor and all the rest were average or above average. The basic course format was 2 message board posts with 3 replies every week. There were written assignments every other week. The written assignments were as small as 500 words and as long as 3000 words. There was a heavy emphasis on proper academic writing. At the end of the course were comprehensive exams. These were timed written responses to questions.

Overall my experience was positive and the degree has helped my career. My employer and several other employers have recognized it and have not given me any trouble over it being a distance degree.

AMU / APU back office help is a pain. They can be very difficult to deal with as they are generally slow to respond. I would suggest never ordering a text book from them. You will always get a better price and delivery time from Amazon, Abe, etc.

I did not use Federal Financial Aid so I have no experience with this.

One last comment which is my personal opinion - Walden and APU are pretty much the same reputation wise in my mind. If the choice is between them I would choose APU only because of price.
