Well, it looks like a decision has finally been made. I'll enroll part-time at Franciscan University of Steubenville for an online MA in Catechetics and Evangelization. It's 55 semester credits (for those without a theology background), but it's only 37 credits for those who have already completed specific background courses.

Congratulations on your new program. This is a school that has come up for discussion at different times but I think this is the first time a member has actually enrolled. It will be great to get your reviews. Best of luck.

And that is on top your doctorate. The sky is the limit. Congratulations!

Congratulations on starting your new program!

If I may ask, why did you opt for Steubenville's program over another Catholic program elsewhere? At 18,500 - 27,500 dollars, it's quite the big investment!

The full cost of the 55 credit program is $27,500, but I would never pay that much money for an MA degree. However, with transfer credits, employer tuition reimbursement and a scholarship, my out-of-pocket cost will be $8575 for the degree, but that’s still expensive. However, my wife approves of the school (that’s a big part of the equation) because she is an alumni and she says that it will be a solid [Roman] Catholic education, without any dubious doctrines. Apparently, the school is extremely conservative and has a large following of Roman Catholic believers.

I suggest that, as preparation for your matriculation, you learn how to sing Everybody Loves Somebody or Ain’t That a Kick in the Head, both with a heavy crooning effect.

In addition to being known for the U., Steubenville is famous as the birthplace of Dean Martin.

(I traveled Dean Martin Blvd. in Steubenville a few days ago on the way from Wheeling, WV, to Youngstown, OH, which is one of my favorite theatre cities.)

I never dreamed that I'd ever be able to go to Franciscan University at Steubenville (FUS), due to the extraordinarily high overall cost. It's a wonderful financial and educational opportunity that surprisingly presents itself: Opportunity knocks and I'm opening the door to see what's behind it.

Dean Martin left at a good time. My wife attended FUS in-resident (not online); and she said that Steubenville has a lot of unsavory areas. The city's population continues to decline every year (there are fewer than 19,000 people left), while the poverty rate has increased to over 27 percent of the remaining population.

    Thanks for the response.

Steubenville definitely has that reputation of being a theologically "conservative" institute. It also has a reputation of having a large contingent of charismatic Catholics, but I suspect that they won't have any effect on your studies as a distance learning student!

Best of luck to you! Do let us know how the program goes!
