The following message was sent to LinkedIn members. The website offers "competency-based degrees" in four to six weeks using the European Qualifications Framework, but does not (as far as I could tell) say from which school the degree will come. The name "Dr. Brenden" is mentioned dozens of times, with no first name provided. Research suggests that "Brenden" is, in fact, the first name of Dr. Brenden Tempest-Mogg, founder and proprietor of Warnborough College, which has been discussed often in this forum.

    The LinkedIn message:
    "Competency-based Degrees
This option is ideal for mature successful candidates seeking to have
their life/career portfolio assessed under the European Qualifications
Framework (EQF) in order to obtain a degree - Bachelors, Masters or
Doctorate. This method takes into consideration prior learning, career
and work experience, business and professional knowledge, leadership and
life-skills. Dr Brenden and his team under Dr Brenden Education Solutions
affords this opportunity. This fast-track process can be achieved within
4-6 weeks, and is achieving wide support and recognition. Successful
mature adults do not have to go back to college to prove their
knowledge and experience. Their success proves that they are worthy of
degree recognition. I am pleased to meet your needs or those of
colleagues. To learn more please go to: DrBrenden THANK You.
    Best wishes,
    Dr Brenden

The European Qualifications Framework does not provide a process for awarding degrees based on life experience. It provides a means for comparing qualifications systems across countries. The EQF provides 8 levels and each participating country matches its qualifications to that framework. Qualifications include both academic degrees, other academic designations, and vocational designations.

    From the Profile page:

"Dr Brenden is listed in DEBRETT’s People of Today (debrett.com) and Linkedin (www.linkedin.com)"

Wait a minute, I'm listed in LinkedIn too. Does that make me a big deal as well? Awesome :fest30:

Here is an excerpt from the Wikipedia article on Warnborough . . .

"In 1995 it was alleged by several American students that Warnborough misled them into believing it was affiliated with Oxford University.[27] When students discovered that Warnborough had no connection with Oxford University about fifteen or twenty of them immediately withdrew from the college with some intending to sue for refunds.[27][28] The college denied that it had claimed any association with Oxford University.[27]

Although the college continued to deny any misrepresentation, Oxford University threatened Warnborough College with a lawsuit over these alleged misrepresentations[28] and the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board sued Warnborough.[6][27] The lawsuit resulted in a judgement against Warnborough College by the Superior Court of King County, Washington of nearly $300,000.[29]

On 4 October 1995 the United States Department of Education took emergency action against[30][31] and then, in 1996, terminated the eligibility of Warnborough College to participate in the federal student financial assistance programmes under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 on the basis that it was not a degree-granting foreign institution; its credits were not freely transferable to eligible US universities; and it had no eligible one-year vocational programmes.[31] It also fined the college $40,000 for failing to make refunds to students in accord with Title IV and for misrepresentations to students.[31]

Hertford College was reported to be pursuing legal action against Warnborough College to recover a property rental debt of 6,000 pounds.[32] Other creditors hired a private detective to track down the principals after they returned to Australia.[2][33][34] The Boars Hill properties were repossessed by creditors and its corporate owner, Oxford International Educational Enterprises Ltd, directed by brothers Brenden and Daryl Tempest-Mogg and their mother, Ethel Tempest-Mogg, was wound up in a petition by the Inland Revenue.[2] In 1996, Warnborough relocated temporarily to offices rented from the New Road Baptist Church in central Oxford.[2] The Tempest-Moggs returned to Australia in July 1996 and the New Road office closed in August 1996.[2] In October 1996 Warnborough went into liquidation.[33]"

I was just trying to be funny. On a nostalgic kick incorporating YouTube videos where they match up. Newhart was quite a funny show.

If you look at Dr. Brenden's ad you will find an address in Canterbury. Plugging that address into google brings you to the Warnborough College website so there's probably not much question which "school" will be issuing the degree.

Columbia State advertised a PhD in 28 days. They did it, too...before the Internet.

He didn't go to jail for this. He went to jail for an earlier fraud involving a trade school and a make-up selling scam. The Columbia State matter got dumped on top of that.

He was Lana Turner's last, but she wasn't his last.

You are correct, Rich. He was already in jail for the offences you mentioned, when he pled guilty to 9 counts of mail fraud re: Columbia State. He got some additional time for those 9 counts. I should have written that Pellar "got extra jail time" rather than "went to jail" seeing that he was already there.

    From the Wiki:

"In 1997 Pellar was convicted of ten counts of criminal contempt for violating an earlier injunction against making false representations, issued in connection with a "permanent makeup" business and a paralegal training academy, and in 1998 he was sentenced to 67 months in prison for the contempt conviction.[9] He fled before the last day of his trial,[9] but was later captured in Mexico and sent to prison. In 2004, while still serving his 1998 contempt sentence, he pled guilty to nine counts of mail fraud associated with the Columbia State University diploma mill operation.[10] For that guilty plea he received a sentence of eight months in prison and was ordered to pay restitution of $45,835 and forfeit a $1.5 million yacht"

Detailed information from a "Deep Throat" at Columbia State (which I passed on to the FBI) showed bank deposits of $72,000,000 in four years. It went to Mexico, and then to oblivion; almost nothing was recovered.

Here's a 7-minute excerpt from Brad Beasley's full-length (I think) documentary on Pellar, focusing mostly on his hypnotism career. I've never seen the full version; don't know if it was ever marketed. https://vimeo.com/8970319
