Does anyone know if ECU has required campus residencies for their postgraduate degrees?

    Thanks!

ECU generally requires 10 face-to-face "contact days" per year between the student and a supervisor (though these need not take place on campus); I don't think this requirement applies to external course-based programs, though I imagine some of them (the master's in nursing, for example) probably require some on-campus clinics.

Which program are you looking at?

    Tom,

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm still casting around for a doctorate in Creative Writing, in case I decide to get a master's in same, which I'm leaning toward at this time.

Do you know if a Creative Writing doctorate could be done completely externally through ECU?

I can't recall if it's available externally or not, but ECU definitely offers a Ph.D. in Writing; and ECU is not, by far, the only school in Australia to do so. I'm confident that if you earn a master's in writing and want to pursue doctoral work, you will have plenty of options to choose from.

If you're aiming to do an applied degree, you may want to look into the Master of Creative Arts/Doctor of Creative Arts nomenclature as well.

I do know that Monash offers an M.F.A. that can technically be done "externally," but whether this means no-residency externally, low-residency externally, or frequent-residency externally I can't say, nor can I say for sure whether the degree can be tailored to writing.

ECU does (I think) offer an M.A. in Writing as well as the Ph.D., so if you're stumped for options at the master's level, that may be a good choice. I'm very, very happy with ECU--everyone over there is clear, knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to work with; the requirements are sensible and neatly laid out; and the supervision has been exceptional so far. But it may very well be that most Australian schools are like this.

    Cheers,
