Hi all, for those that did the MAIS and completed a thesis at WNMU, did you do it alongside classes or did you take a semester just to work on it or both if both your concentrations had this option.

    What were your concentrations?
Did you go to the ceremony?

Exit questions are not too difficult. You do them as you wrap up your final classes. You/school admin. alert your teachers before the end, and they give you some final questions to ponder. The questions could come in the form of short essay-answers, as mine did in English. I guess I ended up writing a few thousand words, overall. Can't remember exactly.

The thesis is not really allowed anymore. My guess is because it is hard to complete without the direct, in-person guidance of advisor(s). I set out to write one for history. Aimed for something like 50 pages, ended up with 35 well-researched pages. I felt like I hit a wall with my topic. So, what it ended up being was more like a capstone paper, which I was okay with, since I was ready to be DONE!

Point is, you can do a thesis, but it is not advised. And, honestly, the exit exam questions are the easiest way to go ahead and finish up your degree. If you are looking for the challenge, try to write a longer paper in one of your classes, and really put some polish on it. You can always show that to other grad/PhD programs later on - with the clarification it was not in fact a thesis/dissertation. A lot of times they are just looking for a writing sample anyway. Can this person write? is the major question in mind. For several of my classes at WNMU I had to write some longer papers 10, 20, 25-pagers - especially in history. That will give you some experience that will help you later on, in whatever you choose to do.
