I can usually tell which classmates of mine won't make it through the semester/quarter. MIT needs to contact me for input ASAP. I'm cheap.
Mostly they are guessing because the prediction cannot be 100% accurate. Even in academic research, when I used the same data and methodology for research replication; but the result was totally different.
