    Greetings To All:

Has anyone had experience with the Excelsior Statistics Exam 408? Could I inquire as to the difficulty of the exam? Is the exam camparable to the sample included with the study guide?

    Thank You:

    Lineman -

I'm also planning on taking a proficiency exam in Statistics to complete my Excelsior degree requirements. However, I'm wondering why you're choosing the ECE exam. The ECE exam costs $117- while the DANTES Statisitics exam costs $40- plus whatever fee the test center charges (in my case $25-). Is there a specific benefit in taking the ECE exam? Do you have any information re: the relative difficulty of these exams?

Actually, there is one benifit I can think of (however, it only applies to veterans [GI Bill benifits]). This is according to the military benifits advisor at Excelsior. If you were to sit an ECE exam, it would qualify as a course from Excelsior which would satisfy part of your full/part-time status requirement for GI-Bill payment. Which (if done right) could counter the enrollment fee that your VA benifits WON'T cover.

    Best Regards,

    Bill

    Mayerz,

I forgot to ask. Where are you sitting the DANTES exams? Do you find it hard, as a civillian, to get on base and take the exams?
I hear stories (since 9/11) about getting on base to sit a DANTES is comparable to pulling teeth? <g>

    BR,

    Good Morning:

I know of no advantage the Excelsior exam has over the Dantes exam. In my case it is eaiser for me to go to the test center as to try to arrange for testing on a base, also I live closer to a test center. This will be my first exam for credit so I have no clue as what to expect all of my experience is classroom only, except for one continuing education course I have taken over the internet.

    Thank you for your responses.

I took five DANTES exams in January of this year. I took three of them at the Mercer County Community College - West Windsor, NJ campus. I believe you can schedule an appointment for the DANTES exams any day of the week. They have most of the exams on hand but will order any others that you need. Since I work in the area and the college is, more or less, on my way home, this was particularly convenient for me. They also administer CLEPs on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it's easy to get an appointment.

Due to high demand in the area, DANTES exams were being administered at my local public library in January and February. I took advantage of this to sit two other exams.

Sorry for the double post. I tried to edit my message and apparently re-sent it.

    Mayerz,

Wow! I had no idea that DANTES were administered any where other than a base education office (that is good news). Anyone know anyplace that offers the DANTES in the New England area (something other than a military base [or a base that will let civies in w/o just for the sake of sitting an exam])?

    BR,

    Bill

That is fantastic that you can set for the Dantes exam at other locations than bases. I was not aware of this fact. Maybe Dantes has a web site listing all locations, I need to check that out, they are less expensive than Excelsior. I wonder if the difficulty of the two exams are comparable. I have never read a post of anyone that has taken these particular exams.

    Thank You:

I sat three DANTES exams last year at a local state university. The DANTES web site for civilians can be found here.
