I received an email from Patten University today advertising a tuition sale for $199 a month for Associates, Bachelors or Masters programs. Although there is also something in the email which states the graduate tuition is $349 a month. I don't know the exact details on the promotion, but will probably call them tomorrow.

Still trying to decide between here and WGU and this email is somewhat persuasive. If it is for the life of my program that is really enticing. If it is just for 1 semester like they were offering before, then not so much.

Enroll by midnight tonight and we'll throw in a free set of Ginsu steak knives. Operators are standing by.

I don't know how I feel about Patten. I took two MBA courses through their sister school New Charter University (DEAC, formerly Andrew Jackson University, if I recall correctly) and I found them pretty horrible. Misspellings were common place and the course on HR was offensively simplistic (and many parts of it just wrong).

Hopefully with regional accreditation comes some higher standards (and, in fairness, I was an early adopter in NCU so things may have improved there as well). If I were in the market for an MBA I would probably go the WGU route. But if I needed some undergraduate credits, I can see Patten being quite useful. They have some interesting programs and, if you were concerned about the whole for-profit thing in today's climate, you could always flip the credits over to one of the big 3.

I just graduated with my associates from an accredited community college. A frighteningly large number of questions on tests were a matter of choosing the correct wrong answer. I had a history teacher argue with me about Jackson eliminated the national debt. I guess in her world if it wasn't in the pathetically presented online text, it didn't happen.

Do we have (or can we form?) a syndicate of investyors to help me buy it? Laugh, laugh! nOT with my broke @R$$e and my poor credit rating! But surely someone could do it. I have long thought that if I could just win about $500, 000, ooo in the lottery I could then just spend the rest of my life buying, forming, and selling colleges, universities, and seminaries while meantiome getting some online doctorates, maybe some residentiakl= doctorates after i retire from teaching full-time.

Or mayber even get a few honorary doctorates if I could ever figure out how to get invited to give a few graduation speeches or maybe even endow an university.

I don't know about other states, Ted, but if you really want to start a seminary then you can set up a university with a religious exemption from licensure in Virginia for less than $500, including incorporation and SCHEV fees.

cOOL! !F I WRE $T!LL 1N $34TTLE, I could establish my ownb semi n ary out of my house or church anbd ordain my graduates in my new-founded denomination, to be called siomething like the Independent Lutheran Association. What the ILA is or will be ios an assovciationm of washed outb Lutheran seminarians who want to build their own little store-front churched. Too bad the Great State of Cali no longer allowws yopu to declare your book collection and.or your house to be worth $50,000 and then swtart up your own school. Too bad the Great State of La no longer allows you to have your own school state registered for the cost of a business license. But it can be done. Were I to go back to The Great City of Seatown to establish my own state exempt independent Lutheran church and seminary I would have to consider how I would be positioned, target markleted, or niche marketed sio as to be uniquely positioned from such iother fine Seattle area Lutheran Seminaries as Faith Evangelical Lutheran Seminary and/or Covenant Bible Seminary.

Not quite sure of whether or not Andi Jerkson paid off the federal defecit. But first, what has happebed was this.

    A. George Washington ran up the RAEVOLUTIONARY WAR debt and Alexander Hamilton paid it oiff.

    B. tHEN James Madison ran upm the War of 1812v debt and someione else paid itb off.

    C. Then President Polk ran up the Mexican War debt and it got paid off.

    D. Then President Lincoln ran up the Civil War debt and General Grant paid it off.

    E. Then Pres. McKinley ran up the federal debnt again to pay for the Spanish-American War and his fellow Republicans got it paid off.

    F. Then Pres Tommy Wilson, the son of a Confederate chaplain, and a PhD in History and Politics (JHU, 1886) RAN up a WWI debt and ther Repubs paid the bill for it.

    G. Then Frankie (Goes to Hollywood?) Roosevelt, cousin of that Col of the Rough Riders of Spanish American War fame ran up a WWII/New Deal/Square Deal (or Fair Deal?)/Korean War/Great Society/Vietnam War/Greed is Good Decade/two Iraq Wars debt and that one hasn't been paid off.

The reason I happen to know all this is that either American Heritage or its subsidiary Audacity: The Magazine of Business History ran an article on theb history of the American public debt. Furthermore, my ideas of a PhD in History and.or a PhD in Politicalk Science from the Union !N$T!TUTE Has evolved considerably since 992. The history of the American public debt was to be one possibility for the dissertation at Union and Marjorie Bell Chanmbers would have been my dissertation preceptior for that.

Virginia. I have no idea how they do things in West Virginia.

Darn! Had it included both East and West Virginia (as in the Great State of Virginia before the war) I could have headquartered my school in Wheeling, WV and that would have been an easier drive to my school. ;1)

According to recent threads, Ted, someone could open a hundred or so schools from Pakistan on a shoe-string, and pretend they were domiciled anywhere they like. Someone else got caught, you say? Try, try again! Heck of a commute, though....

Patrick, I heard about this deal, too. I'm currently enrolled at Patten and got the $199 a month tuition rate a long time ago. There really isn't much to it. You enroll and that's what you pay. If you are still riding the fence, you should know that Patten runs these specials at different times throughout the year.
