There are very few Masters degree programs in Philosophy around. Depending on how you hope to use it the HMU program may work well for you. If you do a search of our site using Philosophy as the keyword you'll see there are a handful of programs available, most of them outside the USA.

As my very dear friend Kiz has already told you, there are very few online master's programs in philosophy around. Harrison Middleton University offers a distance learning MA in Philosophy that is based on the Great Books of the Western World. They are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, which ios legitimate accreditation, but DETC accreditation is also national accreditation, which is less prestigious thasn regional accreditation.

Southern Evangelical Seminary offers an online MA in Philosophy which is accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, which is legitimate accreditation but it is also considered national accreditation which is less prestigious than regional accreditation

Holy Apostles College and Seminary offers an online MA in Philosophy offers an online MA in Philosophy whichj is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. One of our former philosophy expeerrts once said that this program emphasizes Catholic theology and that would tend to make sense inasmuch as HACS is a Catholic school.

From the Great Country of India:

Madurai Kamaraj University www.mkuniversity.org offers a two year MA in Philosophy by coursework. It tends to offer philosophy with a left slant and religious philosophy. They have appropriate recognitionm in their own country of India. They also offer a PhD in Philosophy by dissertation only.

    From Our Mother England:

The University of Wales offers master's and doctoral programs in philosophy and they seem to be very well-regarded.

The University of Wales is in Wales, not England.

Ah, yes, indeed. England conquered Wales in about 1282 and Wales is now part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, not, as you pouint out, part of England.

I refer to England as "our mother" because they were the mother country prior to 1776.

In the late 1700s the population of white people in the USA was approximately 4 million. There were also approximately 3/4 million slaves from Africa.
Oh yeah, there were also approximately 10 million Native Americans. So whose mother are we talking about?

BTW, the Chinese didn't arrive until about 1850 and that was waaay over on that left coast. About 25K at that time growing to 105K by 1890.

There's no doubt that considered demographically, the UK just isn't the mother country that it was back in the day. And as with any situation this complex, one can make all sorts of interesting claims. For example, the oldest city in the U.S. is San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Augustine, Florida was founded over forty years before Jamestown. Does that make Spain a mother country?

But I suppose I agree with Ted that the UK still has the best overall claim to the title, both in terms of political and judicial continuity, and in terms of cultural influence -- most notably that the vast majority of people in the U.S. speak English natively, and most of those who don't speak English will end up with kids who do.

Actually, there is a new book out called 1421 which claims that the Chinese arrived in the USA in 1421, over on the left coast.
