    Hello all,

Have my application in for this fall at Dakota State University and the Doctor of Science in Computer Information Systems. Hopefully I will make to cut and be able to start this fall. Can anyone tell me how the "Seminar" classes work with distance education? Do we record our presentations and send them in, or do live presentations via video, or something else?

Also - is there any residency requirements or only for the dissertation defense etc?

How to they deal with textbooks for the program?

    Any information would be helpful.

    Hi Joe,

Keep us posted on how things go. Admission into the DSU doctoral program is very competitive because they low tuition, high-quality and limited number of students they can admit each year. I started in 2009 and finished my D.Sc. in 2013.

Everything is fully online. You do presentations live via online web conference like Webex or Go2Meeting. You purchase regular textbooks for your classes and most classes have recorded lectures you view. Overall a great experience if you can sneak your way in!

    Well Everyone,

Just got my acceptance e-mail from DSU this afternoon. Looks like I will be starting the Doctor of Science program in Information Systems in August. I am completing my MS in Biomedical Informatics this fall as well. It will be interesting to see what courses DSU feels I will need to make up before officially starting my doctoral classes.

Will let you all know what happens as things progress.

    Hey All,

Just got my acceptance email on Tuesday (June 10) for the Dakota State University Doctor of Science in Information Systems program. I was a little worried that I wasn't going to make it due to all the information I read about the competitiveness of the program. I was incredibly surprised to elated to receive my acceptance for the Fall semester.

My MS degree will be completed this Fall as well in Biomedical Informatics. It will be interesting to see what courses DSU determines I will need to complete before starting the D.Sc. courses.

I will keep you all informed as to what happens and how it goes.

That's great news! Keep us posted on how things progress. You may need to take a few more foundational classes since your degree is in biomed.

If you have any question let me know!

Well all, just got my acceptance letter in the mail. The only foundation course I have been tasked with taking was INFS 614 - Introduction to Research. So that was pretty exciting to find out I only have the one course to take.

I would love to get access to the syllabi for the courses -- any idea if there is a location that has the syllabi for view / download.

    Hi Joe,
how things are going with your doctoral degree at DSU? I have also received my acceptance letter in the mail for the D.Sc in Information Systems. I have two foundation course to complete: INFS 614 - An Introduction to Research and INFS 608 - Applied Statistics. I will be starting on Fall 2015.

Any idea on how to elaborate the Study Plan?
    Thanks,
    achayan

    Hello,

Did you already sign-up for you foundation courses in the fall. I am already registered for INFS 614 for fall. I would have liked to take it in summer session starting on Monday but it isn't being offered.

I haven't done the study plan as of yet but it seems straight forward as to putting which classes you plan to take in which semesters. I am planning on taking 2 full courses and 1 research seminar every term starting in Spring. This fall I am going to just take the foundation course and at the most a research seminar course. My biggest issue so far is determining if there is a required / suggested path of which courses to take when. Do your core courses need to be completed before electives and when do the 3 required research courses (quant / qualt) have to be taken and when is the best time to fit in the comp exam. I have an email out to the advisor but haven't heard back yet.

    Will keep you all informed,

    Joe...

Decided to start a blog about this as well at joepaquette.weebly.com

    Hello,
I have done my POS and had my advisor to approve. I did not sign up for classes yet.
I will be taking 3 classes per semester: 1 research seminar topic and 2 doctoral level classes. My specialiazation is Analytics & Decision Support.

Any idea on how to register for class?

    Thanks,

    achayan,

To register for classes - go to MyDSUPortal sign in and then go to the DSU Student Page. In the information box to the right at the bottom is a link for 2015 Fall and Spring class schedules / registration - you can click on that link enter the term interested in and it will list the classes available. Then register for what is available.
