Several weeks ago there was a post about a money management degree that was exposed as fraudulent.
As an undergrad still looking for a major and about to inherit a moderate estate I would appreciate any info on this type of degree, only non-fraudulent of course.I am not interested in becoming a financial planner just in learning how to manage ones own assets. Thanks in advance!

College for Financial Planning is owned by the same corporation that owns U of Phoenix. Looking at the tuition alone tells you that  . My gut tells me you can find something equal or superior for less money, especially in regards that you don't want to do this as a career.

Then again, even if you did, a local college in my little town offers the 5 courses on the undergrad level that qualify you to sit for the CFP exam(s) for about one fourth of the cost.

    Good luck.

  4. If your primary need is to learn how to manage your own money, you might check into info & resources offered by the Motley Fool -- see http://www.fool.com/school.htm

I've found them very readable and useful.

Another possibility is to look into adult education courses in your area.

You can also go by any brokerage company, Edward Jones, Merrill Lynch, American Express, etc. and gather massive amounts of literature for absolutely nothing..........how do you beat a deal like that. And, you could go to work for them and they would train you.
