    Hello All,

Absolutely fantastic site!!!! I can't say enough good things about this forum. I've scanned it pretty hard and spent days on it reading the various posts, it has been a huge help!!!!

I'm now at the point where I'm looking to do a part time DL PhD in economics or a related fiend, i.e. political economy, management, finance, etc...etc....and hope to get some feedback on the schools I'm targeting given the below constraints.

    What I'm looking for:
    1) Cost is NOT an issue.

    2) I have 2 masters degrees and would prefer to skip the US PhD req of doing master's level classes. Which is why I'm focusing on the UK DL PhDs. I"m also a EU citizen, seems to help the cost, but reside in the US.

    3) A prestigious university, I"m looking for a school w/ a great brand to add to my CV.

    4) Nothing against online only Unis, but I prefer a school w/ "bricks and mortar." I could care less what my PhD says on it, as long as it's a PhD from a good Uni. I really don't want to get into an argument about online only Unis, they are great, I'm just not interested.

I'm far along on my PhD proposal and so far I'm focused the below programs. Any comments? Has anyone done a DL PhD at these schools? Any other schools I should add?

LSE (heard a PhD here can be done via special arrangement / on a case by case basis)

King's College London - PhD Political Economy
Great catch here by the forum, seems more of a one off type of arrangement.

University of Leicester - Management Distance Learning PhD and MPhil, fairly good site dedicated to DL.

Univeristy of Exeter - Mentions a PhD is avail by distance learning and split site study, but few details, esp for economics.

Any other schools I should target????

    Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A "research only" PhD doesn't not automatically mean you can do it by DL. Often you have other duties in addition to research that requires you to be on/near campus (like teaching, attending/presenting departmental seminars, etc.) Of the programs Major56 mentioned, it looks like Staffordshire is the only one that is DL.

Thanks for the feedback, I thought the same..but will reach out to the schools directly. Not sure about Staffordshire, I've heard some very mixed things about the school / program....
