For starters I suggest you review this site thoroughly then come back with your questions
College Degrees for Adults at Thomas Edison State College

There is a thread on how to obtain a TESC degree for less than $10,000 but I can't locate it at the moment.

Although you state you want a "completely web based program" you can save big money by taking CLEP and DSST tests, but you have to visit a facility that conducts these tests.

Two other colleges that can provide reasonably low cost degrees are
Excelsior College Excelsior College | Excelsior College
Charter Oak State College Finish your Degree Online - Charter Oak State College

Any of the Big 3, Thomas Edison, Excelsior, Charter Oak.

    Western Governors University
    CSU-Pueblo
    CSU0Global
    Northern Arizona University

Honestly, there are so many options out there I could type type names for an hour and still miss a bunch. Even Harvard has a mostly online option these days via the Extension School (cheap too, and you would only have to fly into Boston for as little as a few days).

What sort of degree are you looking for? How flexible are you? Planning to use financial aid? What about using standardized tests like CLEP and DSST?

I don't think the Big Three are necessarily a good choice for people who don't have any experience with the university level. Eric, are you good at standardized tests and does going through multiple schools taking courses here and there to transfer back to a single institution appeal to you as a way to save money? If so then yes, this sort of thing could save you a lot of money, but not, or if you just want a program where there's basically a clear track where you always know exactly what you're supposed to do then other schools might be a better fit. (And I say that as a happy grad of one of the Big Three.)

I agree that the Big 3 may not be optimal for this application, frankly there are a bunch of choices that may fit the bill much better.

Some other cheap schools would be Patten University, Chadron State College, Peru State College, Fort Hays State University, Hodges University (self-paced programs), Brandman University (self-paced programs), and Mount Washington University.

    Under $5,000 actually. : )
