What would be considered an overall consensus toward the M.Tech degree here in the U.S.? Seemingly UNISA Master's and doctoral qualifications is phasing out most of its M.Tech degree programs.

It's at NQF level 8, which I think means that it's more likely to be considered the equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in the U.S. than a Master's degree.

Thanks Steve. So NQF 9 is the standard for Master degree equivalency? I wonder if the M.Tech degree is available at level 9?

Yes, in the new system, level 9 is for proper Master's degrees: http://www.saqa.org.za/docs/misc/2012/level_descriptors.pdf

I don't think there are different MTech programs that are at different levels, I think the level 8 MTech is a holdover from when polytechnics were separate from universities. I think level 9 programs would be MA, MSc, and so forth.
