I talked with SNHU about their masters they will waive the $40 for me since i'm already a undergrad student. the thing is their M.S psychology program is research base and doesn't have courses in mental health like learning about mental disorders psychopathology but the program prepares students for doctorate. i'm trying to find the right masters program that offers it i will be advocating for children with disorders and facing abuse or survived abuse while dealing with disorders like myself. i will also be serving on different boards. I will be taking a abnormal psychology course in my undergrad study, so is SNHU masters psychology good enough for what i want to do? this is the program http://www.snhu.edu/online-degrees/g...curriculum.asp

I read that Walden University offers a M.S psychology program in 15 months as well like SNHU and has psychopathology course. I read about Capella too they offer board certified behavior analyst courses in their M.S psychology program but no psychopathology courses they have mostly research courses it seems a lot of masters psychology programs are like this.

Can you load up on those courses for your undergrad and then do a master's in psych without a specialization? Undergrad degrees seem to be more flexible and offer more classes like that. I know SNHU actually has a psych degree with a mental health specialization as well as one with a child and adolescent specialization for their undergrad. I think your master's in Psych would be good enough in general. But what about the MSW? I know MANY people who got their undergrad in psych go on and get their grad degree in MSW and can advocate for anyone they choose.

Wow thank you! i was thinking of getting a certificate for mental health but the only ones i found was at Capella. So it seems i can just stay at SNHU for my M.S psychology child adolescent development and get a certificate as well. I don't think the last link at Montclair offers the certificate program online

If you were to go to the Nursing and Health-Related sub-forum, you will find a sticky thread on online master's degrees in psychology. For that matter, if you wish to continue on & get a psychology doctorate, the Nursing & Health-Related sub-forum also has a sticky for online doctorates in psychology. - Tedmeister.

You are looking at this situation entirely backwards and it is causing you unnecessary trouble.

    (1) What do you want to do?
    (2) What do you need for a license?

In many states the academic courses are not important, it is the degree itself. So your starting point should be what the state legally require. If what you are planning on doing doesn't require any license then no one cares. All anyone will see is MA in Psychology.

I know that sometimes it's difficult to focus on what is immediately in front of us but I'd suggest that you focus on completing your Bachelors before worrying about which type of doctoral degree to pursue. (There's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip.)

Am I remembering correctly that you plan to have a career with dfacs in Georgia? If so, you want a master's in social work. It is the only master's that will give you the opportunity to move up in the organization, or even qualify for a pay raise. I've heard there may be a future option that dfacs will pay for an msw, so maybe that will be an option by the time you graduate with your bachelors degree.

I was interested in it and the state office told me they accept people with all types of degrees but i plan on advocating for children and serve on boards, so i can give them a voice especially with mental health and abuse which i experienced myself. i'm already in process of joining a state board

Thank you for saying so; that's always the first question when considering psychology....because a lot of the time, the best psychology degree is the one you didn't get. $$$$$
