This pertains to degree holders from commonwealth systems ; Unis in places like South Africa and Australia (Even Canada I think) offer 2 types of undergraduate degree paths. a 3 year degree and a 4th (honors) year option.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of Unis that offer the 'honors' year online ?

I've found Uni SA offers it, and Uni of New England (Australia) also has it.

Does anyone know other places that offer this option ?

Reason is, a friend has a 3 year computer science degree from an Australian University, he did not do the 4th year. And now he wants to take a Masters. But his Masters program requires him to have an 'honors degree'. Checks with the Uni confirms that he needs to do the 'honors year' to be considered for admission for his masters program.

    Help would be appreciated !

***My friend dropped Uni SA an email about how their program works. Qns like, if the program is a self study system with a year end exam, or project based etc etc. But nobody has replied him. It's been almost 3 weeks.

    (taken from another thread)
UNISA is one of the world's mega-universities (it's a wiki look-up). They currently have over 350,000 students enrolled.
    350,000
They get thousands of casual inquiries every single day from all over the world and they simply do not have the ability to respond to every email or phone call. Don't even bother trying. This is what you need to do.
    1) Do a CAREFUL reading of the university website. Virtually every question is answered there if you're willing to dig a little.
    2) Go to the IACI-Canada website and do a careful reading there as well. They can help you. Let them help you.
    3) Take the steps necessary to register. It costs nothing. It's a pre-application step. Without a registration number you do not exist as far as the school is concerned.

While it's unlikely that your friend will find an alternative as affordable as UNISA, I suggest that she also look at the University of London and the Open University (UK).

Maybe not exactly honors year but universities do offer transfer credit in to 4 year degree programs. Assuming you are looking only for DL options some universities and colleges like TESC, Excelsior College or COSC offer transfer credit toward the 4 year degree completion that will be Hon compatible.

I know most DETC accredited universities accept 75% of matching credit to the degree program so a person can complete the final forth year and earn a degree.

Check many of the RA DL schools, not cheap but you can earn the 4 year degree by DL transferring your credit.

    Hi Lerner,

do you know off hand if the big 3 accepts modules completed at a foreign university for credit transfer ?
If that's the case, I would have my friend check with the big 3. Perhaps go through WES.org to get his modules checked then apply as a transfer student to finsh a 4 year degree.

Thanks Kizmet, will look into the IACI-Canada website. Was kinda expecting Uni SA to take forever or never reply.

    :x

UoL don't give credit exemptions. Checked with them before. But not the Open U. Will have to look into that.

Each of the big 3 has approved foreign credential evaluation services that they accept.
I'm sure WES is one of them but at times for different countries they may have a different service .
So best choice is to check their web site and chat with their admissions adviser first.

Maybe there are some readers who did this already and can share their experiences.

These are often referred to as "top off" programmes, so if you search for that you might find ones at schools in Commonwealth countries where they know what you're looking for and can accommodate you.

Thank you ! Considering the amount of commonwealth countries around, this is going to be a long search.

Sorry, I got the preposition wrong. It's "top up". Here's a starting point for you. It does look like there's a lot to sift through.
