Framework for rating colleges

    I don't like it. The problem that this is trying to address is real and substantial. I just think that it's the wrong way to go about it. First, I think that any measure--especially of employment-- is bound to either be so generic as to be unhelpful for decision making or so specific that it winds up creating too much confusion.

    My own view is that a lack of "full information" is not what ails the marketplace. What ails the market place, as I have said before, is that educational institutions have no incentive to cap costs because the government gives them a virtually unlimited pool of funding to do with as they please. In my view it is wishful thinking that full information will solve this problem. The government has to cut off the spigot.
