I have a question about how to place a degree on a resume and when someone asked what degree you have, what do you say?

    An example:

ASU Online: Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Electrical Engineering (BSEEE)
(its not a BSEE, but most HR people are looking for a BSEE degree)

Devry Online: Bachelor in Engineering Technology- Electronics (ET-E)
(its not a BSEET, but many HR people in that arena, are looking for a BSEET degree)

    Looking for opinions.

    Regard,
    Michael

why would you not list the actual degree you earned from the actual school you earned it? What am I missing?

I would say what is actually is to make it simple.

Its not my degree. An engineer into my group says he has a BSEE degree, actually the degree is a 'technology' degree.

Ethically, I would say its a Technology degree, but thats my opinion. I was looking for other opinions.

I worked with people that had BSEE's and some that had BSEET's. The BSEE was always sure to point out that it was a BSEE and the BSEET was always sure to make theirs sound like a BSEE. These people did the same job. It is a technology degree - plain and simple.

My degree is an Engineering Technology degree and so that's what it says on my resume. Depending on the context I do/do not correct people if they make the easy mistake of thinking it's an Engineering degree.

    I understand your dilemma.

Not all HR representatives understand the differences.
Your resume may get rejected by resume scanning software for not matching the key words.

The best way is to write truth. And in some cases you can add a line that can help
during the automatic resume scanning process or screening by HR rep.

if you state that you have a BSEET you will be lying.
Because your degree from Devry is Bachelor of Technology in E T Electronics Engineering it usually means less science classes and more concentration on technology classes, so the degree is different. Bachelor of Science in Technology is different from Bachelor of Technology.

As to ASU BSEEE you need to compare the content to BSEE degree program, you may find that the program is identical.
In such case you can add a line on the resume sating comparable, similar to BSEE, or something like that.
This way resume scanning software will find the key word BSEE and basically allow your degree of BSEEE to be considered by a person who can decide if it's sufficient or not.

If the program is not comparable you can point in a one liner that the program has additional focus on such and such in contrast to BSEE program.
You will have BSEE letters on the resume and it will get scanned properly to allow it to be counted as matching a key word.
You will not be lying on the resume and you may increase the chances of satisfying the requirement in that area.

    How about:

2014, BS (EEE), Arizona State University, Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Electrical Engineering

2010, BAS (ETE), Devry University, Bachelor in Engineering Technology - Electronics

To me you should disclose the school name and the actual degree. You don't have to disclose whether it is online or traditional campus.

Arizona State University - Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Electrical Engineering
DeVry University - Bachelor in Engineering Technology - Electronic

Or you can leave off the concerntration. It is wrong if you says DeVry University - Bachelor of Electrical Engineering when you have Bachelor in Engineering Technology - Electronic.
