I've just started teaching the Graduate Research and Writing Course (MLS 500) at Excelsior. Any other MLS faculty or students here?

Hi, Jon. By the silence, I guess the answer is no. I was rather taken with the Excelsior MLS -- a tutorial in Research and Writing; one year of essentially an online Great Books course; and a year or so pursuing one's own area of interest; plus generous transfer credit -- but instead I expect to be doing a master's in adult education online through National-Louis U. in Chicago.

If I am still into all this chasing of degrees in another two years, I may well do the Master of Liberal Studies from Excelsior then. So do keep us posted on your thoughts and observations about this rather new Excelsior program. I'd be fascinated to know how many are enrolled in any given year. I'm guessing it's not more than a couple dozen, because it's not the sort of degree that clearly gets you anyplace. Indeed, it's by definition a generalist degree at the master's level, which is still a bit of an odd concept. (I love it, since I'm a liberal arts fellow through and through, but that's just me.)

Interestingly, although I would probably exempt out of your course, I thought the idea of a one-on-one tutorial in current library research techniques might be helpful and fun. So maybe you'll be my prof someday.

Excelsior's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program

Actually we have 92 students enrolled in the program at present.
