Hi all, I am looking for a phonetics class online. Credit or non-credit, but the class should be upper division/graduate level. Thanks!
I would look around at the schools offering online MS in Speech Language/Pathology programs. Many of them offer the required undergraduate pre-reqs online (a course in Phonetics is one of the requirements). Here's an example from Nova: https://www.fcas.nova.edu/coursewizard/crninfo.cfm?txtTerm=201530&txtCRN=32545 Next class starts on 1/5/15.
If credit doesn't matter, would you be interested in free open courseware? You would have no teacher, and would get no certificate or transcript, but all the information is there. The first that comes to mind is MIT, which has the complete courseware for both a BA and MA in linguistics. Here is a link to the graduate course in Phonetics. Linguistic Phonetics | Linguistics and Philosophy | MIT OpenCourseWare The text book for the course is Acoustic and Auditory Phonetics by Keith Johnson. As of my posting this, there are several used copies of older editions available on Amazon for $1 plus shipping. Or you can look here to scour several sites for the cheapest price CheapestBookPrice.com - Acoustic And Auditory Phonetics, 9781405101233
That book is on my desk right next to me! A colleague gave it to me. Thanks for the MIT link! I'd prefer a teacher, but I have a solid background in linguistics, so an open courseware course may be enough.
