Hey guys, I have been reading this board for a decade and very rarely post but I find myself in need of advice. I am interested in switching careers at the age of 36 from social services to something in the realm of business. I am thinking accounting because -1. I have always been good with numbers and did take some undergrad accounting courses once upon a time and 2. The ability to test for some type of certification i.e.- CPA, CIA, CMA, etc.

A little history on me - AS from Ashworth College in Business via correspondence/online, BS in CJ/Psych from Excelsior via credits almost exclusively from Peru State College, 24cr. from APUS towards their MBA, and a little grad work at Fort Hayes in Special Ed.

My questions for the masses are this - I am aware National has 4 week classes, so knowing this do you guys think this would be overwhelming for someone with a full time job (no kids) being that accounting is not an easy topic to start with? Also, what is everyone's thoughts on changing careers into accounting at 36 with no experience? I know I am not Big 4 material at this age but the biggest issue with working on my MBA was that I was seeing no return on it, due to my most recent business experience being from 10 years prior. I tried even to get into upper level social service program administration but they were always looking for someone with an MSW / PhD who were licensed.
Anyway, what do you guys think? There are such a wide range of career paths here, I am sure there is some great advice lurking around. Thanks guys!
