OK, I acknowledge that I am a fossil, who only recognizes 3 of the artistes of the current top 20 pop songs. (Iggy Azalea? Nico & Vinz? Kiesza? Who are these people?). But I am taken aback that a multi-billion-dollar phenomenon has crept in, unknown to me.

My 16-year-old grandson just traveled to Seattle to be one of 11,000 people filling the basketball arena all weekend watching ten video game players compete, on stage, for a share of $11 million dollars in prizes. More than 70,000 people just sat for 4 days in Katowice, Poland watching a comparable event. The US State Dept. is now granting special visas to professional gamers. And Robert Morris University, Chicago (among others) is awarding sizable scholarships to video game players. Not developers, players.

All right, gotta go. I have a new Frank Sinatra LP to listen to.

Maybe some schools will soon be paying video game coaches $5-6 million dollars a year!
Another big-time money-game. Just what the Universities needed!

"Hit that console, son! Nail that Call of Duty scholarship!"
