There are two items of special interest to what all we talk about in the August/September 2014 Professional Artist magazine (main cover story: "Confessions of an Art Professor").

A package by E. Brady Robinson, "Low-Residency MFA Programs: Meeting a Growing Demand in the Higher Education Market," includes profiles of visual artists, photographers, a professor, and a program director, at several low-residency MFAs in visual art in the U.S. There's a brief (abbreviated) listing with helpful links of low-residency MFA programs variously in visual arts, studio arts, 2D arts, graphic design, digital photography, and interdisciplinary arts: from VCFA, Bard, U Arts, Hartford Art School, Goddard, MICA, Lesley, SFAI, SVA, Parsons, PNCA, Otis, MECA, MassArt, and SAIC).

But wait, there's more: Another article later in the issue, "Learn Art Online" by Ora Sorensen, includes some recommended sites for informal education, from magazine websites, artists' blogs, and YouTube and other video channels. There are also a few distance learning degrees beyond MFAs (from SCAD, and MAs in Arts Education from Boston U and UFL).

Recommended to anyone interested! Though "Confessions of an Art Professor," while interesting, isn't very confessional. It's no Art School Confidential; (of course that probably wasn't the aim).

The articles don't currently seem to be available free-to-read online, but you can buy a digital copy for $7.99 from the Professional Artist site, or find a print copy at select newsstands, art stores, and libraries.
