    Hi,

I know I read it somewhere in this forum and I tried searching old posts, but couldn't come up with any. World Education Service (WES) is one Degree Equivalency service. Are there others and have you used them? Is there any one more reliable than the other?

    Thank you,

You can take a peek at this one

    NACES Home

I've never used any of them so I can't really say if one is better than another.

I used ECE to convert my UK credits to US credits. In my case ECE was mandated by Excelsior College.

I did use ECE to evaluate my Nigeria university credits before transferring them to TESC. I did enjoy their service, but I do not like having to pay $40 every time I have to order a copy of my transcript to any US institution.

I've reported here on my research, in which I paid for a man with somewhat unusual credentials -- home schooled, no Bachelor's, Edinburgh Business School MBA, chartered accountant, etc. -- to get an evaluation from ten-or-so NACES evaluators. A few significant differences -- enough to cause me to recommend considering 'shopping around' if the first report is not satisfactory. ECE was the most conservative.

Also, Excelsior would not give credit for the Edinburgh exams. I intervened with their president, sending her a copy of the really tough MBA finance exam, asking her to compare it with the math CLEP, for which they gave six units. She agreed, and they gave comparable credit. Probably not a policy change, however, but a reinforcement for the philosophy of the "Bending the Rules" chapter of my book.

    Hi Dr. Bear,

I just purchased a copy of your 16th ed of - Bears Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning

Is the 16th your most recent edition?

Boethius: Is the 16th your most recent edition?

Bear: Sadly, yes. The future is a bit murky. The publisher, Ten Speed Press, was purchased a few years ago by Random House, itself a division of the world's largest publisher, Bertelsmann. Random House said they'd slowly be going through the 2,000+ titles they acquired to decide which ones to abandon, which ones to keep in print, and which ones to commission new editions. So far I've heard about five of my 14 Ten Speed titles -- one 'keep in print,' one 'new edition' and three abandoned . . . but nothing on the Bears' Guide series. My daughter and I are considering a 'fish or cut bait' message to Random House this summer or fall.

My university has used a few different NACES members, but we have standardized on WES. They have been very reliable.

I really think you should (and I know that I am not alone). A new edition of Bear's Guide would be a welcome addition to my office (and the office of our director of admissions). Right next to my new edition of Degree Mills.

Why not go on your own, perhaps use CreateSpace/Amazon? I think it would be far more profitable. You certainly have already established the "brand".

I submitted my South African degrees, a masters and PhD, to two evaluators: IERF and AACRAO. Both offered very similar evaluations.
