Who knows of colleges that have innovative payment plans for those that want to skip taking out a big fat student loan? I know that Western Governor's will allow you to break their bi-yearly tuition up into 4 payments with a small fee. Some schools will accept half tuition now and half later (Columbia Southern University and sister school Waldorf College-if they have not changed). Ashford and Penn Foster have monthly plans, etc.

Some people have tuition reimbursement benefits at their jobs. Some companies are billed by the school directly, but most are not. Usually students pay out of their pockets and get reimbursed by the school at prescribed intervals. This may be a financial burden depending what a person's salary and financial responsibility consists of.

If a person were to attend Western Governor's University for a master's degree program at the rate of about $3750 each 6 months (take as many classes as you can handle so they say), a person could pay out of pocket with as little as about $150 per week (if they can properly sock their money away-or something to that effect).

I am looking at one of their master's degree programs that has 11 classes in it. I truly wonder if I can knock 11 classes out in a year and get a master's degree for less that $8,000? I hear it has been done by many people. I need a huge dose of academic courage on this one.

Check out afford.com, and search for your desired school. They let you split up tuition over a few months. E.g tuition is 600/ cr so a course is 1800. They can split that over x months based on the plan you choose
