    Thanks to all that answered my first question. Does anyone know of another CHEAP doctoral program that is accred.? Two factors that lead me to be interested in UNISA is the cost and no residency. If you know of another CHEAP--NO RESIDENCY program please let me know.
    Thanks

    Try Liberty University - DL Doctoral program in Education Administration for about $5600/year.

    Bill, what is the financial commitment for the UNIZUL program? Does it vary from faculty to faculty? I just sent email to them to discover whether or not it is necessary to possess a M.Ed. before being accepted in the D.Ed. program. Any familiarity with this?

    Thanks

    My total cost for the ThD program approximates $1600. The ThD is based on the 4 year ThM (not a MA) which is cognate and prerequisite to it. The ThD ,a minimal two year study ,is in my case at least given for successful completion of the thesis. Were it to take me more than two years to complete I only pay registration fees for extended study.

    I don't see why fees would vary from faculty to faculty. But I also wonder if a doctorate in Ed can be initiated at Unizul without an MA in Ed on which to build. Someone who recently posted on the thread "Easiest Doctorate" maintained that some schools allow this. Perhaps were the undergrad major a subject taught in public school as Math ,eg, it might follow that he is correct.

    I find Unizul's Theology faculty to be very helpful and responsive. Perhaps you should contact the head of the Dept of Comparative and Science Ed : [email protected]

    Good ""luck"!

    Thanks, Bill. It would have been great if UNIZUL offered a Doctor of Administration (D.Admin) or a Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) like UNISA does. That's my real area of interest.

    If I understand correctly, though, you can (in principle) complete your Th.D. in two years. And it is exclusively researched based, isn't it? In a past life I had aspirations for advanced studies in the New Testament.

    I am hoping some poster would have some advice on navigating UNISA. Or perhaps UNIZUL has the program I'm looking for and I just haven't noticed it.

    Thanks again for the response and blessings to you in your pursuits.

    ThD in two years

    For Clarification:

    That is six years of full time grad study:
    MDiv =3
    ThM =1
    ThD =2 (or more).
    ____
    6

    By way of comparison:
    MA =1 (frequently)
    PhD=3
    __
    4

  8. By way of further comparison -- the median time of full-time graduate study to PhD in the sciences is now 5-6 years. I have a reference for this -- I'll post it when I find it.

    above a blooper

    now specifically,

    Oregon State University which has several PhD programs in the sciences, requires -as per its grad catalogue- three years MINIMALLY beyond the four year BA ! Again by comparison, the ThD MINIMALLY at Unizul requires two beyond the ThM which is four years beyond the BA!

    No doubt Gert has a broader base from which to make her point ,but this is the requisite of my former school.

    "blooper" refers not to Gert's post but to a deleted incorrectly typed post by me.
