biology major. 101 credits. didnt finish senior year.my situation is tougher because you cant complete a biology degree online. i went to school in virginia (94-97) but now i live in minnesota for work. how should i handle this.

1.go to school online which would require me changing my major.

    2. take classes at a school here in minnesota and see if those credits will transfer back to my original school. i emailed my original school and this is what they said. Upon reviewing your transcripts and the courses listed in the 1994 catalog, we will need to speak with the registrar's office concerning your audit. Some of the classes you need are no longer offered, therefore they will have to determine what courses will be a substitute for you to take. I will contact you as soon as I hear from the registrar's office.

    3. transfer to a minnesota school and finish my biology degree. not sure how i can do this while working fulltime. .

    4. go to a minnesota school and get a degree in something else.

You need to look into the time issue carefully. Those credits may have "aged out" or be "stale". This isn't a typical problem but many schools will not allow credit towards a degree if the class was taken ten years or more prior to graduation. Like everything else this various by school, I've seen some as low as seven years. Ten years seems to be normal. However, I know some schools have much less (five years) for lab work--which could be a real headache for you being in Biology. So you can't assume that all those 101 credits count even at your original school, much less as transfer credits.

I just thought of another issue that needs to be clarified. Some schools has what is known as a "continuing enrollment" policy. What that means is that in order for 1994 to be your catalog year you would have to have been continuously enrolled. I had a relative who got caught by this policy at his school. He went for a year, dropped out of a year, and when he went back the date of his re-enrollment became his new catalog year.

If the academic advisor you are working with at the school in VA is any good they should know about these types of issues. But not all academic advisers are good so I would at least query about them. Remember, at the end of the day it is the Registers office not an academic advisor or admissions counselor who has to approve the degree audit.
