Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a lazy person. I want to get into teaching online because it seems to me that teaching online has got to be a lazy persons dream come true: Don't have to drive to work. Don't have to attend meetings. Don't have to write lesson plans. Don't have to give lectures. Most don't have to publish. Don't have to meet with students face to face. Rarely have to interface with other instructors. Don't have to keep office hours.

All I would have to do is sit home in my PJ's grading assignments and answering emails. Granted, reading all of those papers would be work, but regular instructors have to do that too.

Could someone tell me the easiest way to get started teaching online?

Unless one is running synchronous classes, one doesn't "teach" online. One facilitates. That said, it's more than grading assignments and answering e-mails.

    Good luck in your explorations.

You can start by buying the book from Dr Babbs below, she recommends getting a PhD but this one can be also done online from your basement while watching a Jerry Springer show.

Make Money Teaching Online: How to Land Your First Academic Job, Build Credibility, and Earn a Six-Figure Salary: Danielle Babb, Jim Mirabella: 9780470100875: Amazon.com: Books

Be ready to dish out the 50K to get an online PhD so you can make 2K per course. To make a living, you need to teach at least 6-10 courses at the time that requires endless feedback and grading.
I believe if you are lazy and want to work at home, you can become a CPA and just fill income tax forms online from home and probably make more money and will cost you less to get the CPA.

Don't forget that flexibility comes with a ball-and-chain too. Not only do I NEVER have to go in to an office, I also NEVER get to go on vacation without taking my laptop with me to work 4-6 hours a day on.
(Note: Actually, I'm taking the month of June off to take a cruise with my wife but it's the first break since facilitating full-time started several years ago - and it's costing me a ton in lost courses).

It is extremely easy. :shocked:Sometimes I laugh myself silly because they are paying me to read a few emails and do very little work. I think I'm robbing the school. Sometimes I conduct my classes on my pajamas or from my throne (bathroom). I wonder why no one has thought of becoming an online "professor." Did I mention the paycheck? I can go on and on with the different virtues of teaching online. But you are right, it is so easy that even a caveman can do it. Good luck on your endeavors.

Btw, you may want to change your online name to dazed and confused instead.
