I currently have a Bachelor's degree in Business(I was young and didn't know what I wanted back then) and now wants to make a switch to computer engineering which has proven to be very difficult. I'm willing to spend the next several years to make this right. my ultimate goal is to get a masters degree in computer engineering within 5 years. Should I do another Bachelor's degree in computer engineering online and then apply to a traditional classroom style Masters degree or should I go for a Masters degree in computer science online? To pursuit a master degree directly(even online ones) I assume there are remedial courses I need to complete before applying given my non-technical background. Regardless I will have to do this part-time because I can't afford to quit my job. Just want to see if anyone can give my some sound advice for my current situation. Greatly appreciated.

My first question is what do you want to do with this degree. The second question is whether you understand the distinction between computer science and computer engineering. I only ask because about 75% of the folks that I meet who say they wish to study computer engineering actually mean computer science.

Computer Engineering normally requires a strong background in calculus, statistics, digital systems and electronics. It is not likely that you can get admission to a MS in Computer Engineering with a business degree, at least at a serious school.

Computer Science requires strong math background but not so much electronics or digital systems so you might be able to get admission into school provided that you complete certain prerequisites but a Computer Science degree might be too heavy for someone that is not used to strong math.

For someone with a business degree, a more realistic program would be a MS in Information Systems, Information Technology or Management Information Systems. These programs are meant for any graduate and do not require strong math or engineering courses. This is the type of program that I would recommend to a Business graduate.
