Hi Guys, I came across this few days ago. Postgraduate Courses | Singapore - - Masters & Phd - Doctor of Philosophy - Government There's a company here (Singapore) that's offering a PHD in government by the University of Canberra. Admission into the program is a bachelors degree. Whole program duration is 3 years. Cost is about $50,000 SGD. That's about $39,000 USD. (exchange rate at 1.26) It's that a decent deal ? I was considering taking an (Online) MA in government or IR once I graduate end of this year, with the eventual goal of doing a PHD. But cost is something that is at the back of my mind as well. How will the PHD be received in the US once I return back there to work/find employment? I did a google search for U of Canberra, it's a public University that's ranked 20+ in Australia. (600+ in the world) I'm not aiming for a fortune 500 company. But hopefully I want to have the opportunity to work at a community college level, teaching. :biggrin:

There is no quid pro quo for earning the PhD. They don't hand you a job or a career at commencement. Because you will have earned the degree via DL, you will not have been in a position to get prepared for an academic career. However, it will function as a career enhancer just as any other recognized PhD from a school no one's heard of. The price seems okay, but you can shop around. I'd also get with the school itself to verify this arrangement. Also, you'll need to take into account other costs (like travel, residencies, research, others).
