If someone was to do all 120 credits for a degree from scratch. Would it be possible to complete the whole program for $10,000 in this age. Cost has been increasing over the years, I'm just wondering if it's possible to do it with a budget of $10,000.

Northern Arizona has a competency based program, $2,500 for 6 months. I guess if it's done at a rapid rate, possible to finish it within 2 years.

Does anyone else have other options for a degree for $10,000 ?
Maybe we can come up with a list for the budget consumer.

Good Morning, I would like to see other options in the future for legit grad programs in the US with this format. Out of country would even be a good listing. I am aware of Western Governors but competency based grad programs seems pretty sparse. Hille

    Detc

You can do a BS at a few DETC schools like Ashworth and Penn Foster for under 10k that includes all fees and books.

Would DETC pose a problem when trying to enter graduate school ?

I keep hearing so many issues on past forum topics about NA entering into an RA program.

The University of London has a variety of programs that can be completed through distance learning.
Some of the degrees offered: English, Philosophy, Business, Finance, Accounting, Computing...

Home | University of London International Programmes

10-12 courses to be completed to earn a degree.
Most courses are graded by a year end exam (May of each year)
Passing mark for the exam is 35%, 71% and above scores you First class honors. (Different courses have different cut of points)

Cost for the program is @ $6,000 - $8,000 USD (As of April 2014)

**Most programs cost $4,000 pounds, but some programs cost more, example, English.

There are enough regionally accredited graduate schools that accept DETC degrees to make it feasible. There are more that probably won't accept DETC graduates, so it'd be best to check the admissions policies and potential graduate schools before staring a BS at DETC school.

Yes, it will, but not an insurmountable one. Some regionally accredited schools will accept your application, including the ones on this list. Many others will not. If your goal is just to have regionally accredit options afterward, national accreditation is okay. If your goal is to have a specific graduate school in mind, then you'd better make very sure national accreditation will do.

It's also worth noting that national accreditation also has spotty recognition internationally. UK-NARIC (the organization that evaluates foreign credentials in the UK) doesn't recognize it, for example.

So it's a caution sign, but not necessarily a do not enter sign.

Of course not. Certainly no one around here thinks that.

(The American Irony Association recommends the above comment be adjusted for severe sarcasm.)

Seriously, what others have said. Plus this: if you get a bachelor's from a nationally accredited school and top it with an RA master's, almost no one will care about the accreditation of your bachelor's.

    Think "outcomes".....

The Big 3, Charter Oak State College, Thomas Edison State College, and Excelsior all have programs that can in some circumstances drastically reduce your cost. In order to keep them cheap however you would have to be flexible and welcome alternate sources of credit like straighterline and credit by exam. It also varies based on what credits you already have. A few years ago I worked out a degree plan through COSC that I felt could be done quickly and for around $6000 from start to finish.

Western Governors University is also RA and functions similar to the program you discovered in Arizona.

AS for NA vs RA I will just say check some of cookderosa's recent posts regarding the utility he has found with his NA undergrad......such a move will, at best, limit your options. there are too many low cost RA options out there to mess with an NA undergrad in my opinion (release the hounds...I've said it again) :)

If you don't mind foreign, Oxford brookes university has BS in accounting with ACCA that can be completed for less than 5K

Oxford Brookes BSc Degree Resources | ACCA Qualification | Students | ACCA Global

The issue is that you are not going to find cheap options with no testing. The whole point of testing is to save money by avoiding instructed classes that cost a lot of money.

Entry requirements could change (better or worse) while you are earning your BS degree.

Ay CSUDH two of my fellow students had issues getting into our grad program with UK and SA 3-year degrees (but they were allowed after some higher level review - just a thought if you go for a UK degree).

I would be surprised if such a program exists at an RA school.

The problem is all these options require testing. The OP wants the same thing as many other posts that I have seen over the years, "Where can I get the degree that is the cheapest, fastest and with no exams (just some essays)".

You need to pick 2 out these 3, cheap and fast (e.g. excelsior) or fast and no exams (any online for profit with no exams but a bunch of essays and online discussions).

PF requires exams and so most of the cheap options.

I didn't/don't see the no test requirement in the OP. But without that his options certainly dry up fast.

Check the title "Getting a degree from under $10,000 without testing. "

I think he missed "that can get me into an ivy league school and is preferably from a top ranked institution".

This type of posts come here at least once a week, where can I get a degree that doesn't cost much and doesn't require a lot of effort but it can get me a great job and allows me to continue into a top MBA (that most likely would want also for cheap and no GMAT).

There are quite a few cheap options for undergraduate and graduate education from decent schools but none of these are top ranked nor require little effort. You will be doing the same work as any on campus student at a regular school but with the difference that cost is cut because the exams replace instructed courses or because graduate work is replaced with publications or self study but these options are neither easier or prestigious.

Oh My bad ! I think people got the wrong impression of Testing.

What I meant was, To get a degree for under 10k without doing 1 off testing (exams) to pass courses, CLEP etc.

Perfectly find to sit for exams for your courses when you are studying for your degree program.

I am not too sure if I understand, you don't want "off testing (exams) to pass courses, CLEP etc".
What do you mean by off testing?
Do you mean off campus? Most DL degrees require off campus testing

Uhh, I mean getting a degree without doing exams through CLEPS or Straightline (or other similar types of methods) for credit exemptions.

I'm perfectly fine with courses within a degree program that requires test/exams through proctoring etc.

The reason I mention (to exclude) about exams for credit exemptions is because it's not readily available outside of the US.

Excelsior exams are normally conducted via vue testing that is available all over the world. ACCA exams are also available all over the world.

Another option is the association of international accountants in the UK, you can test 80% of the courses with them and then finish it with a degree partner via DL for about 5K USD.

CLEP and DSST exams are available in locations around the world.
