Hello all and I want to say that this is my first post but I have been a consistent lurker on the forum. As a matter of fact, due to the great advice from here, I got more motivated to do things smarter and not harder.

That being said, I am looking for some online sciences with labs that I can do to apply for PA school.

I was originally taking courses to go to Med school years ago but the sciences I took (BIO, Chem) were done 11 years ago and PA schools require that the hard sciences were done within 10 years.

I have taken other sciences that are required recently (A&P I, II; Microbiology). I have been in healthcare field for awhile as an EMT and now an LPN. I thank God that I went to military as they basically paid me to get these. I know there are classes at the local college and University, however almost all the classes are in morning when I am at work. To be honest I was lucky to get the other recent sciences accomplished.

I have 2 AA degrees and also interested in getting a Bachelors from one of the Big 3. This forum is a Godsend and I will appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks!

My advice is a bit dated, but back around 2009ish and 10ish, I strongly considered applying to med school. At the time, all my hard sciences were done online through Ocean County College. (as well as intro chem, intro bio, A&P 1&2, microbiology- all with labs) They still offer online sciences, back then you couldn't do orgo online but I changed my mind before that became an issue. My plan was to complete orgo and biochem through University of New England's med school. I had intended on applying only to DO schools, and my list included all of them plus my state's "instate admitted only" MD program. I emailed the MD program plus the first 5 or 6 DO programs asking about my labs, and all said it was fine.

So, my thoughts: if you are going to do a non-trad educational path, you need a reason and a story. Also, it is my impression that everyone who won't make this round of MD / DO admissions is also possibly applying to PA schools. My impression is that PA admissions are as, or more, competitive than DO admissions. My husband teaches for Johnson and Wales University- they just started the university's first PA class. The acceptance rate was under 5%, they were bombarded with admission aps and just not enough slots. Have you considered also applying to med school? Sometimes, PA programs have more requirements than med school. In my memory, I know all the schools I looked at wanted the 8 science core, but PA schools had multiple other subject requirements, including calculus and other such nonsense. No matter what you do, BEFORE you take an online science, start email admissions reps and save those emails. Also, get ready to spend SERIOUS $. My online labs cost more than my TESC degree.

Cookderosa you have been an inspiration and I am honored that you posted to me. Due to posts from you and Sanantone I went back to school and got some CLEPs done.
My intention was to also attend DO school as I love the curriculum and philosophy. In addition, they are very accepting of older students and nontrads. I still think of going to med school but since I have been working with many docs and PA's they have almost unanimously recommend I go to PA school. The consensus is that Med school brings about 400k in debt, long residency after, and I also have a family. Anyway, I still have many thoughts and visions of DO school.

I definitely have a reason and a story regarding my path. I don't want to bore you with details but I am a veteran of foreign war, Raised by aunt and uncle, first wife passed away, was homeless. However I have 3 wonderful boys and a wife who is way too good for me!

I have 4 PA schools within driving distance from my home and I will apply to all and more in the US. I have checked their requirements and its pretty uniformed across. The PA school that is nearest and as a matter of fact less expensive acceptance rate was 15%.

I am going to check the links you provided. Is it ok if I have any more specific questions that I can PM you?
You are a blessing on this forum and the way you pay it forward is uplifting. Thanks again:smile::smile:

thank you for your kind words, that's big payment around here. :) Feel free to message me or post on the forum. If it's general and helpful to others, sometimes creating an archive answer helps someone else down the road who is still lurking. Of course anything you'd like to keep more private, especially if it's specific, don't hesitate to message me here or my email. [email protected]

I wish you the best!!! I also really REALLY get a kick out of watching people follow this journey- and I won't call him out, but another member is starting this path (PA or med school) and I'm just loving watching it all unfold. I love it when someone here hits a homerun.

PS thank you for your service. :usa:

I don't have any advice on the online sciences with labs, but I just wanted to commend you for choosing to be a PA. In the coming years, we're going to see a huge jump in the number of midlevels needed, and it's going to be a GREAT time to be a PA or NP. I think you're going to be very happy with your decision. :beerchug:
