This is a plan for a liberal studies degree at TESC, but one might be able to make it work for some of the other BA degrees. This plan assumes that one will study ahead of time so that all ALEKS assessments can be passed within a month, but the plan will still come in under $4,000 with 3 more months of fees. Technically, UOTP is $4050 with the application fee. This plan could be cheaper for New Jersey residents, those who can complete 4 or more Straighterline courses in a month, and those who can score high enough for 12 credits on the foreign language CLEPs.

They are free if applied at TESC or COSC, you have to be a US Citizen (in most cases) to take them.

    They are here. http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.aspx

    Good show!

I wish Saylor was around when I was getting started. Wow.

I'll also add that the CLEP language exams are a fantastic deal. I spent $200 on two tests for 24 credits. At a glance, it looks like there is room for at least one of them to slide into your plan, which would shave maybe $200 off of the degree you laid out.

Now, last I checked, COSC still accepted FEMA and offered up to 18 credits for certain GRE scores, so a similarly priced plan might be available for them.

In my case, I got 24 credits free from AP and co-op courses offered by my high school when I was a senior. Young people and parents of the world should mke sure they know what is offered. If I had any clue about EVERYTHING my school offered, I might have had 40 free college credits and 2 free job-ready certifications by the time I graduted. If only I knew, sheesh...

Saylor University ProcterU exams are $25. UOTP ProcterU exams are $100. $60 per ProcterU seems to be the fair market rate.

I want as many people as can be properly educated to go to UOTP as I want this type of program to be successful. However, that takes nothing away from the very nice plan laid out here.

    Great post!

My only question is what ALEKS course counts for Natural Science?

I don't know enough about how tests are applied at COSC to put together a plan. It would take me awhile to research. A current or former COSC student might be able to put something together.

TESC lumps mathematics and natural science together.

However TESC is RA while UotP is NA accredited. The RA will be more aceptable to many employers and grad schools.

Yes. But the way I see it, UOTP's growth could help that. Unlike other DETC schools, they appear to have friends with the deepest pockets and longest reach of influence around.

It's founder, Shai Reshef is very wealthy from previous business success. As importantly, University of the People has become a media darling, and they get a lot of very good publicity that money can't buy.

I made a mistake. Another test is needed for Intellectual and Practical Skills Electives adding another $100 bringing the total to $3815 unless I can think of a cheaper option. The initial ACE transcript will cost $40. If you take CLEPs and DSSTs before enrolling at TESC, then the transcripts will cost $20 and $30, IIRC. With the transcript fees, the total is $3910.

I found another mistake. Sorry, I rushed to put this together. I put the same Saylor course twice, so I need to find a replacement for it. I'm going to take away the Intellectual and Practical Skills test I just added dropping the price down to $3810. I'm going to move Saylor Calculus I into that spot. Another 6-credit CLEP will fill in the rest of the General Education Electives bringing the cost back up to $3910.

Yep, and all of that can help UOTP become more accepted in ways other DETC schools haven't been able to. That's not to say that there aren't successful DETC schools because there certainly are, but this one has a certain something about it that I think the media has, as you pointed out, taken a shine to and that always helps. At the same time, you know the media is just waiting for that first big blunder to report on.

What I am wondering is if UOP credits could be transfered to a university? I would like to study computer science what would be the path for that? And do CLEPS are just tests?
