So today, from one Thiyagu Nagaraj, we received yet another lovely threat.

    Here's what we received:

Unlike many of the threats we receive, this one is actually about a recent post. I guess these people don't let any grass grow under their feet. Gotta say we're sweating bullets about being "closed down" or "having to pay compensation."

Oh, and here's an interesting piece of information: The supposedly independent, third party accreditor mentioned on their accreditation page... just happens to be on the same server, and same IP address... as the school it's accrediting.

Now who would ever have thought that possible?

When, oh when will people learn that threats aren't helpful, particularly when the school is as obviously questionable as this one appears to be.

    Here's my counter-threat to them:

    Dear Mr. Thiyagu Nagaraj,

I am a regular poster on on various online forums regarding non-traditional degrees, especially from India. Being a citizen of India, I feel it is my responsibility to help and support the international non-traditional learning community regarding opportunities from India.

As per my understanding, any university in India has to have at least one of the following in order to be called "Accredited" (or "Recognized"...or whatever):
    - Approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
    - Approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
    - Accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
    - Established by an act of the Parliament.
    - Established under a State Government's statute.

I went through your web site, especially the "Accreditation" section, and it seems you are NOT ACCREDITED by any REAL ACCREDITATION CHANNELS as mentioned above. So I believe you do not have the Degree Granting status in accordance with the UGC guidelines.

I am further taking up the matter with UGC to verify my findings, and if found correct, will request UGC to place you on their famous "Fake Universities" page.

    Sincerely
    A concerned citizen of India.

I sent the mail to the Registrar of the so-called university, one Mr. Thiyagu Nagaraj. Instead of guiding me through their accreditation status (which apparently is non-existing), he called me a "FAKE PERSON" (god knows what that means) and demanded that I provide him my complete contact details before he can answer my question about their accreditation status.

Has anybody come across this situation - where you inquire the accreditation status of a (legitimate) university, and you are alleged a "FAKE PERSON", and were asked your contact details for disclosing that information which is supposed to be public in the first place?

I remember from Dr. John Bear's guide that once he inquired few details about a school, and the next thing he knew was they put his name on their list of faculty. And I don't want to be on the list of faculty of this school, which is created "to promote sports" but offers degrees in anything but sports (other than a few Phys Ed courses).

FYI - I already reported this school to UGC and IGNOU-DEB and hope they'll take some action.

I have read that it's common practice for degree mills with live chat or phone lines to want to know all kinds of personal info. Sometimes, I'm told, they get testy when probed and make allegations. This is the first time I've heard the phrase "fake person."

This school "is what it is," I guess. Don't worry -we all know you're real!

They have a tendency to say all sorts of insane things during those live chats, as we've demonstrated in so many past threads that it's unfortunately not even funny anymore.

I once asked "Ken Baker" from (where else but) MUST University if he could show me a list of faculty by department. He told me that he could't do that until I paid the several-hundred-dollar enrollment fee. It's a wonder how ANYBODY falls for that garbage.

Good job. Once it's officially on the page, a "fake person" will have helped upgrade this "school" from FAKE Fake University to REAL Fake University.

I am a resident of India and when anything is inside these states, double check if its legal/valid
    -Bihar
    -Uttar Pradesh
    -Chattisgarh

It does not mean other states are 100% clean, its just that the nasty stuff to legit stuff ratio in these states is worse than others.

P.S. - Lucknow falls in Uttar Pradesh, the address looks like a rented flat in a building, aka nasty stuff.

Also the Copyrights mentions 2012 instead of 2014 :p

Thanks for pitching in, montsa007. Glad to see another fellow Indian here.
Yes - these are the red-flag states.
Probably rented/owned by Mr. Thiyagu Nagaraj, Registrar (aka Franchisee) of this wonderful chain of fast foods...errr...Universities.
Probably a copy-paste error - we all do it, don't we?

Well the copy paste error is quite huge if you ask me..
What course are you pursuing btw?

Me? Pursuing a course from this school? If you see my previous/other posts, you'll see I am hell-bent on reporting this school (and other similar Fake schools based in India) to UGC and other regulatory bodies.
FYI - I am an Indian citizen currently working in the USA. I am not pursuing any course right now, but will soon.

Sigh...I meant what course are you pursuing now through distance education from any university and not this one, I did read the other thread earlier today.

I am planning for the next in-take of Georgia Tech’s online Master of Science in Computer Science (OMS CS) program. I missed the bus last time.

They don't. It was done not to get your money, but to get rid of you.

This gets at the Victims vs. Villains paradigm suggested by John Bear. I feel the vast majority of customers of degree mills are "villains," not "victims." (Sure, some people get fooled.) Here's the scenario:

Wife (angrily to Husband): Where have you been all weekend?
Husband: Uh, fishing. A really remote spot with no cell service. Isn't that right, Fred?
Fred: Uh, sure. Yeah, that's it, Fishing. (All the while picking glitter out of his sweater from that "exotic dancer" in Vegas.)
Husband: See, dear? We were fishing!
    Wife: Yeah, sure. (Unconvinced.)

The degree mill--set up with diplomas, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a verification service--is "Fred." The degree mill is the buyer's "wing man." They're not interested in fooling anyone--except the people their customers are fooling. The mill is just looking for co-conspirators with money and (perceived) needs. And they don't want scrutiny.

Good point- one that I think we all suspect is entirely true. During the Roger Clemens congessional hearings, the credibility of his principle accuser was brought into question when it was found that his doctorate came from a diploma mill. His excuse? That he didn't know it was a diploma mill :suspect: How can you claim that you didn't know that you did no academic work, learned nothng and just paid someone in the triple digits to print out a few graphics on a piece of paper and mail it to you? By being either disturbingly, brazenly dishonest or disturbingly, brazenly stupid.

Looks like these INOU folks are still at their silly game. Today I got a PM from someone I've never heard of:

"Hi Johann - I am new to "DegreeInfo.com" but, noticed your thread on The International Non-Olympic University. Can you fill me in on more information as to your ideas on its "Fakeness," if you will? Any information and/or sources would truly help me out.
    jwilkins"

    My reply:

No - I have no idea who you are -- and consequently, no wish to "help you out." We've already received a "threat of the week" from this school and I recognize a "fishing expedition" or clumsy trap when I see one. You probably want to threaten to sue me.

All you will get from me is a referral to the thread where INOU and its threats were discussed.

    That's it --- goodbye.

    Maniac & Johann -

You're both paranoid....it's my question. I'm a new user. ......maybe you should take a break and assume there are some good people with good questions 'out there.' I highly doubt any attorney is fishing on this site, they have better things to do - wouldn't you think?
