What ever happened to Steve Levicoff?

I was reading quite a few old threads, as you all know I tend to do when I'm bored, and I saw a lot of posts by him. But I've seen nothing from him recently. I did find his wikipedia page, which mentions he's active on another board. But why isn't he here anymore? I really liked his attitude, his posts, his knowledge and credibility, and his overall DL stance.

He was very well known because his fights with MIGS (DL Mexican University operating in the US) and Enrique Serna (MIGS lawyer). He also claims that he was able to get a tenure track with his DL PhD from Union but quit for a more interesting career as a truck driver.

He had some constant fights with board members and decided to leave to other distance education discussion boards.

As I recall, he left as part of the group that moved to a different forum because they took exception to one of the other businesses run by one of the owners of this forum. But that was nearly many years ago now, and he doesn't post often anywhere anymore.

That has to be a long, long time ago? I don't recall the exodus. But I'm all ears... :)

Back when DegreeInfo's enemies were actually launching effective attacks, some of the most relentles uncovered a flurry of personal information related to one of the part-owners of DegreeInfo. The information was not private, but was released as if it were BREAKING NEWS and several people acted as if it was.

The infamous... err, scandal  was that the part-owner in question happened to also be a part owner of another business that had, among its various products, a stake in the production of adult media.

Therefore DegreeInfo is a front for gay porn  and the loudmouth religious nutjobs that used to make this site unreadable left... and we all lived happily ever after.

In case I left it even slightly unclear, there is ZERO connection between DegreeInfo and pornography. If there was even in the most miniscule you bet that I for one wouldn't be here and I- as an anonymous nobody- don't even have a reputation to protect.

Anway, Levicoff still posts on occasion on the B forum that became of that exodus. He's a ton of fun to read and easy to root for even when he is entirely wrong- which happens much less often than his enemies would prefer.

I remember reading about that exodus. I forget how I found the thread about it, but I remember that a few very prominent posters left because of it, and I remember Chip's post about the whole thing. Somehow I didn't remember Steve left then.

I remember the great Degree Info exodus. I thought it was a good thing since several of those clowns were colossal jerks who liked to stir up trouble on this board. DI has been a much better place ever since.

Many who left really were a loss. But most people who still post on the other forum have come back here anyway, and I'm glad they have.

I'm still hoping for a Levicoff return. He could be a surprise entrant at the Regalia Rumble, win and main event DegreeInfomania. The crowd would go nuts once his theme hits! :headbang:

If you're looking for a few grins you can go to Google Groups and look up alt.education.distance you'll have to go back more than a few years but if you search for Levicoff there you'll find some epic battles between Steve and a variety of degree mill operators.

Oh! The wars that went on in that place, no control( no moderation) at all just rampant name calling and finger pointing, but we did learn a lot.

Can you guys give me any insight about the DL Truth group? They REALLY seem to hate this group, and they really, REALLY seem to hate John Bear, Chip, and several others. And they take the exact OPPOSITE stance on accreditation, NA vs RA, mills, etc... They are a lively bunch, let me tell ya...

Now just wait a minute, let's get back to the porn thing. Do you think they need adjuncts?

If you've read the stuff, you have all the insight you need. They're not as large a "bunch" as you might think - as I'm told their leader posts under about 14 avatars. There's a 15-page thread about 'em on the "B" forum with more details than you'd want to know.

As for Dr. Levicoff, whom I respect greatly - he has posted on the B forum that he's pretty well given up posting there, but he's still watching over us. He wrote that he reads the forum regularly, but chooses to post very infrequently. Those extremely few posts that he does make reveal that he has lost NONE of his extensive knowledge, or his humour, grace and style. When he feels called upon to do so, he can still demolish a millist, a bad school or faux-scholar with one dose of his flamethrower, as he always could.

In the past, I have especially enjoyed his occasional reviews of musical theatre performances he has seen. Dr. Levicoff is both knowledgeable and eloquent in this field.
