Just got an email from a school I've had experience with in the past. It now offers degrees on the payment plan:

    Select Your Degree and Amount......

Diploma: $195 down and $56 per month

    to
Doctorate: $265 down and $108 per month!

"NOW is the time to Make Your Dream a Reality"

% rate not indicated. Why should one ask when dreams are being fulfilled?

I've noticed that degree mills that require something in way of sustained participation (whether it's monthly payments or mailing in a few book reports) are more popular than the ones who mail the diploma upon payment. It seems that people like to rationalize that they "worked" for their degree, never mind that the work involves writing a check every month.

Columbia State, IIRC, required a token effort like a book report, and they were the granddaddy of all degree mills. OTOH, you don't hear much from outifts like California Central that mail the diploma on payment receipt.

The solicitation definitely does focus on the price of a "dream" degree in terms of moneydown and monthly payments. Possibly when that is the order of priorities rather than the experience of learning being first, the dream becomes a nightmare. It would be nice to think that this school has as its purpose here the benefit the student. But perhaps that also would be but dreaming!

Trinity College/Seminary in Newburgh, Bill, I saw the same e-mail.
At their current tuition cost it would take quite a few years to pay for the doctorate wouldn't it?
