Will doing an online MBA that requires no GMAT hurt my job hunt?

No employer will ask whether you had to take the GMAT. They will either be impressed you went somewhere they recognize, or else they'll check the box and move on to the next criterion.

I think the best way to consider this is by asking: "Who am I beating out?" With any credible MBA you are beating out all the competitors who don't have an MBA. Same goes for doctorates. Rather than compare yourself to someone who has an arguably better degree, focus on the ones you are now better-qualified than.

Unless you are going for a job in the finance industry, an online MBA will not hurt you. Employers are more interested in your skills and experience than they are in the manner in which you earned your degree. There are exceptions, but what I have said is generally true.

I think the question is kind of vague. Are you a young person (20 to 30) that has not a lot of working experience and is looking for a resume booster? If this is the case, a residential MBA with good reputation that most likely requires a GMAT is perhaps the way to go. Are you a middle age professional that has been working for an organization with good results and just need an MBA to appear more capable? If this is the case, any accredited MBA would do.

An MBA is more than a degree, business schools with full time residential programs that require GMATs offer a lot of services such as networking events, Coop programs, internships, placement services, etc that you don't get with your typical online MBA from a school like Walden with open admissions policy. However, a person that has a lot of working experience and professional networks might not need these services so they might not need the prestige of a school that requires a GMAT.

Low tier MBAs serve a market and so the prestigious ranked MBA that requires GMAT, they serve different types of people and needs, not all the MBAs are created equal.
