In the past, when I read resumes of graduates of the various halls of Oxford University, they would always state their degrees as "my degree (Oxon)". Recently, I find "my degree (Oxford)".

Of course, with my indeed limited intellectual and financial capacities, ;) I never studied there, but can someone advise if there as there been a change in tradition in stating one's Oxford degree? :)

    Thanks for any comment.

  2. When I get my Oxford degree, I shall list it simply as "PhD cum max laude, Oxford Open University." As for "Oxon," I presume that's an abbreviation for that other Oxford.

Rumour has it that Oxon is an abbreviation for the Latin name for Oxford, as revealed here: Why is Oxford abbreviated as "Oxon"?

Dear Gert Potgieter: If you get your degree from Oxford Open University, then I could beat you with a PhD from Oxford International University, or was that Bircham International in Oxford, because yours would just be US$2500 all-inclusive tuition fee, and mine would be US$4,500 tuition fee.

My high school history teacher, who "read history" at Oxford, confirms what is written in the article, as have a number of other people who have gone to university in the UK.

    And talking of Oxford ...

Save your money ... I was talking with one of the NOOSR people today in Canberra, and they clearly advised me to treat an Oxford MA as a BA, so it is not just New Zealand ...

... and any first degree from UK that is a Masters as in Engineering and I think Architecture, to also treat as a Bachelors.

Interesting ... and it was also pointed out in the Australian this week, that if you don't want to buy your way in to the lists of the Oxbridge 'elite' but in fact go further, you can actually get one of their Profs to do the thesis for you ... well you could as this bloke is now looking for a job - can't figure out why...and I throught that the Poms were developing a sense of humour ....
