In 1947, Murray Block started at what's now the New York City College of Technology as assistant in the bursar's office for $1.50 an hour. Eighteen years later he was president of Borough of Manhattan Community College. He retired from SUNY in 1983 but it didn't take. Today Dr. Block, 89, is Chief of Staff at Excelsior College.
