I got accepted to Northeastern U's, Ed.D in Organizational Leadership Studies. However, I just noticed that North Central University Ph.D in Business Administration with a concentration in Org. Leadership as well. While I have a lot of Program Management and Personell Management experience under my belt, I am wondering which degree will allow me to teach Org. Leadership 15 years from now? I know that NCU is nowhere near as prestigious as NEU, but does a Ph.D really trump an Ed.D when it comes to teaching on the college level? Does anyone know any Ed.Ds that are teaching outside of the Education department, such as in Business?
By the time I want to teach I intend to have about 10 years of Organizational Leadership experience under my belt in either the government or higher education sectors. Additionally, I have taught Math on the college level for about 15 years.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Higher education is fast moving. Fifteen years is beyond any reasonable planning horizon. I'd go with Northeastern, since it's better regarded and less expensive. With the sort of resume you expect to have by then, assuming these sorts of opportunities still exist, you should be well positioned for them. And even as it is, people do teach organizational leadership with EdD degrees.

Thanks Steve, it worried me that when I told a few family members and friends (including a JD) that I got accepted into a Doctorate program, EVERYONE assumed it was a Ph.D.
I mean, the amount of explaining of what a Ed.D is... Yikes

If you have to explain, just say, "it is a doctoral thing...you [insert condescending glare] wouldn't understand..."

This was the same explanation that I had to give (although mine is a D.Min)- I understand the amount of explaining.

It is a minor hassle having a non-PhD doctorate, but frankly since we're the only people who are likely to bring it up or care, just staying silent seems to work - LOL. :)

A Doctorate of Ministry required explanation?!? Ok, my wife often tells me that I overestimate people's intelligence... LOL.... It's just that the number and types of professional doctorates are exceeding the traditional J.D., M.D. and of course, Ed.D degrees that I would have thought that the general "educated" populace would be more aware. I have a fraternity brother in the USAF who is going for his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (D.PT) . I cringe to think how he explains it to layfolk....
Him: "I'm going to be a rehab doctor"
Them: "They got a degree program for fixing houses?"

I would suggest to do a Doctorate from a known school like NEU or an AACSB accredited school if you are planning to teach in Business schools.

Nmesproject - That's the feel that I'm getting. Your opinon carries weight with me since you did some time in Mass, and probably have a better idea of the weight of a NEU degree than I do. :)

Without looking it up, do most people know what a M.Th. is?

Using contextual clues, I'm going to say a Masters of Theology, but otherwise I probably wouldn't have figured it out. I'm saying that there always have been a lot of Masters degrees out there, but the number of professional Doctorates are growing, too. For example, has anybody ever heard of a DProf, ProfD or D.P.S. degree?

    It's not a Master of Theology, because that's Th.M... what is a M.Th???
