I hate to announce this, but something's happened that I can't fully explain. It turns out that the
angry posters at DLTruth were right. There was a re-look at some dissertations and it was found that
mine wasn't really written by me. Plus, it turns out that awarding a Ph.D. after just 8 months is
kind of a problem, too. As a result, my Ph.D. has been rescinded. I'm no longer a doctor and
I have to return the diploma. I tried to cover this up for years by keeping people from downloading my
dissertation, but it wasn't enough. And I thought, over time, everyone would just leave the
darn thing alone, but I didn't anticipate such a thorough review. Needless to say,
I'm really embarrassed by all of this and need to lower my profile while I sort this out. There's
nothing I can do about it now, and I don't like what it all means, but they were right. So let me just say
    Goodbye.

Link's or it didn't happen (i.e show us your linkedin page where you take down the PhD after your name, news from the school, etc.)

Looks like someone thinks they're clever or we have a hacked DInfo account.

Obviously, someone has hacked in as Dr. Rich Douglas. The same kind of thing happened a while ago at DD, except the target was another long-time poster there, not Dr. Douglas.

Check your security, DI staff. Above all - guard your "back-forum" for mods and insiders. (I presume you have one - I've never seen it, of course.) I'm sure you don't want its entire contents showing up elsewhere on the Net. That's happened to others.

Many members know that we don't remove posts or threads unless they are spammish. Even then, they are not deleted. Rather, they are moved to the Mods forum (we have quite a collection at this point). We moved Rich's post/thread because there was a question of it's authenticity. Was his account hacked? etc. In the past week we've worked on this question, including attempts to communicate with Rich, and the best information we've been able to assemble indicates that the original post in this thread was written and posted by Rich Douglas. So, because it seems to be a genuine post by Rich and because it does not violate the TOS in any way, it is being returned to the open forum. Happy Halloween!

It's still showing up on his LinkedIn profile (the PhD title).

    Unless I am missing something...

the first letter of each line above spells out I-A-M-K-I-D-D-I-N-G.

    Everybody else see it?

There is some unusual formatting in the original message. Notice that the lines are so short that they don't stretch across the length of the page. Apparently the author inserted a manual "return" at the end of each line, even though this was consistently in the middle of the sentence, and well before the end of the page. Normally, people just type away and let the lines wrap automatically; they don't hit "return" until they reach the end of the paragraph.

Why format a message with manual line breaks? Well, this ensures that the line breaks will be in the same place, no matter what size monitor or window is being used to view them.

This suggests that there is some significance to the pattern of line breaks. For example, it's what you might do to code a message in the first letter of every line.

Never mind, basrsu saw it first.

Nice one! Went right past me! (Not surprising, I guess.) Happy Halloween, still-Dr. Rich!

Rich, if this is a joke then it is not that funny. This stuff is too serious to be funny. That post has long-term negative implications. That is why a coward like me uses a handle.

    Omega Code?

I can’t believe I’m pregnant at my age! I bought a pregnancy test
at the drug store today and it tested positive for Hcg. Wow, I am 48 years old! I take
    my prenatal vitamins once
a day. I will be collecting social security before
my child graduates High School. It’s
    all good!
No matter what, I will be a great mom!
    Maybe?

Go ahead and destroy your reputation, Rich.
Obviously you are a ruined man and
    Obviously you don't care but
Don't go blabbing about your troubles around here.

Only a very desperate man would feel the need to confess on a public forum.
    Nobody really cares anyway.
Everyone has their own troubles; don't share yours.

    Rise above all of this.
    Invest in yourself and don't
    Complain to us.
    Heaven loves a cheerful loser.
