  1. This one is new to me: Education America Online Campus. Offers bachelor's degrees in IT, Human Behavior, Operations Management. Plus MBA and MA in Human Behavior. Accredited by Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and by Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). ACICS and ACCSCT typically focus on vocational training institutions.

Anybody know about Education America Online?

I note their accreditation by ACICS, and articulation agreements with Capella and Touro International.

ACICS lists them as "Education America University" in San Diego. The rest of the campuses are listed as "Education America."

The Education America Online website has some really awkward language on it, plus some of the links don't work.

I'm surprised AOL tolerates the name....

Here's what I've got in my not-quite-up-to-date database:

Education America: A large, Arkansas-based for-profit consortium that has been buying up small schools all over the country, including Commonwealth International University, Remington College, and Denver Business College. Although some of the purchased schools had offered distance learning, Education America does not. However, at the time we went to press, their Web site, www.educationamerica.com--announced plans to introduce online programs in the future.

  4. What I found (modestly) intriguing is the implication that they have sought DETC accreditation.

Incidentally, the DETC Accrediting Commission met last Friday and Saturday. I wonder if there are any newly accredited schools?

I know of at least one newly accredited school: University of Mangement and Technology (UMT). They are located in VA and offer graduate degrees.

The other actions taken by the commission will likely be announced next week.

DETC - Gert raised the question in her previous post asking if there were any newly accredited schools as a result of the Commission's meeting last weekend.

I included them as "Education America" in my survey of HR managers. They scored significantly lower in acceptability than even diploma mills and unaccredited schools included in the list provided to the participants. One has to wonder if the name had something to do with it.

Accoding to my numbers, a degree from Kennedy-Western would find more acceptance in the workplace than one from "Education America." I would extrapolate to say that one from Remington College would resonate about the same as the other non-weird-sounding (yet unknown) schools on the list--and better than "Education America."

Now if we can only get Bellevue, Excelsior, Argosy, and Union Institute and University to see this....
