This is for a relative of mine, a new young college graduate. Interested in writing sci fi short stories and novels and has drafted a few, since high school and during college in his free time. Already has good basic writing skills, and his general, mostly nonfiction papers were praised during college, but he was not an English or writing major. He would like to hone his skills, develop as a writer, and is seeking good honest, tough critiques of the technical literary sort.

Have any of you taken any of the online classes from various workshops and classes, or individual consults from these institutes (mentoring), that you found to be valuable and also worth the price they charge? He is not interested in forging ahead to get a master's in writing or MFA right now. Any recommendations or leads would very much be appreciated.

Thank you, Kizmet. He looked at the website, and it appears to be an active one, with lots of networking among authors and many great resources mentioned.
