    Hi

I'm trying to decide what to major in. I want to be smart about this, money is my most important factor, because I want to be financially stable and able to invest in what I want in the future, instead of being stuck in a specific career field.

So I've decided going into banking or some similar business field which has a high yielding salary potential.

Eventually I'll do my own investments with what capital I save and be an entrepreneur.

    The question is!

BS vs BA... I'm assuming BS is more applicable today?

Economics vs Finance vs Business Management vs ?????

    Any advice?

I like the study of Economics but you will be better prepared for the business world with a degree in Accounting or Finance. If the intent is to enter an MBA program then any of the previous degrees will work. I don't understand the point of an undergraduate business management degree but I'm just a crazy guy on the internet.

My father earned a BA in economics from a top-ranked liberal arts college and never could find good employment with it. He ended up working a blue collar job for the rest of his working days. So, no...I don't think economics is a good major. Now, having said that, I do enjoy the study of economics and think it's a fascinating subject.

I agree with Sauron that accounting or finance is the way to go if you want to land a good job in business.

Don't get hung up on the BA vs BS debate. It really doesn't matter to employers which one you have.

    Thanks for your responses.

I spoke with my community college and they recommended I do their Business Administration associate's transferable degree and that the major 4 year Universities in my state all accept this degree from my CC for going into BS Finance.

Will a BS Finance give me a good job straight out of college? I'll be able to work with that and move forward towards bigger and better things?

Yes I probably will get a Masters at some point, but I want to start earning from my BS as soon as possible.

I would get a Masters if it will help me get a better salary.

Then when I accumulate enough wealth I'm going to invest safely and treat my investment as a business, until I become self sufficient from it.

With the economy as bad as it is right now, it's impossible to say. And having a college degree is only one piece of what employers look for. You still have to do well on the interview, make yourself presentable and professional, and other things.
